Background / History
Xu Nian'an renamed the former Gulei Kingdom to Ming upon taking power. Starry Sky City was renamed Ming City, and the new state rapidly distributed its national flag and consolidated control after the royal succession. 4 5
The early Great Ming Kingdom survived an encirclement by the Gulei Kingdom, whose 200,000-man army was drowned and defeated. It subsequently annexed Gulei territory, reclaimed land in the Star Shine Duchy, and drove back the Galloping Wolf Kingdom. 7 11 17
Although it had recovered its territory, Great Ming was initially not recognized as an empire by Heaven Dou or Star Luo. Xu Nian'an therefore ordered recruitment, civil-service examinations, grain stockpiling, and fortification while delaying his enthronement. 11
Great Ming declared itself an empire in Ming City after demonstrating its military strength to the continent. The declaration transformed the state from a kingdom into the Great Ming Empire, with Xu Nian'an becoming its emperor. 23
The declaration prompted Heaven Dou and Star Luo to coordinate against Great Ming. Despite this, Great Ming defeated both powers in successive campaigns, imposed treaties, seized territory and reparations, and emerged as the continent's strongest state. 27 38 43 46
