Chapter 37: The Ninth Ghost General—Samor

In the dormitory building, people fled in every direction as wave after wave of Shadow Ninjas chased after them.

"Damn you! How can you be so cruel?" Shui Bing'er first made herself completely invisible, then spoke furiously.

"Heh. You're wearing a mask too. Don't tell me you aren't moved by this beautiful sight?"

Dai Xieyue stood behind her, watching coldly.

"Pfft—"

A terrified student was cut clean in half at the waist.

A spray of blood splattered across Shui Bing'er's face, making her body tremble.

Gulp!

She swallowed. A sea of bloody corpses and ruined buildings kept appearing in her mind, with ten generals standing proudly amid the rubble.

"Give me your body!" the general's hoarse, icy voice rang out like a thunderclap.

The blood on her face nearly drove her to the brink of madness.

"No! This isn't me." Shui Bing'er clutched her head and slammed it hard against the wall. Blood instantly ran down her forehead.

At last, the illusion vanished from her mind, and she let out a long breath of relief.

"Hmph, so you're a bleeding heart. Now I want to kill you even more!" Dai Xieyue gave a mocking smile and fired a brilliant beam of black light.

Fighting down her urge to slaughter, Shui Bing'er ordered the Shadow Ninjas to rush forward and block the attack.

Rumble—

The huge Shadow Brute held its arms across its chest and blocked the wave of light.

The Shadow Ninjas scattered, only for countless more to charge at Shui Bing'er.

"Bang—bam—"

Boom!

The small Shadow Ninjas were sent flying by the Shadow Brute with a few swift blows, crashing hard into the wall.

The Shadow Brute rolled the Shadow Ninjas into a ball, then crushed it with a bang, as easily as breathing.

Yet Dai Xieyue wasn't surprised in the slightest. He kept sending Shadow Ninjas forward to attack. After all, Shadow Ninjas were immortal; even if they disappeared, they would revive.

If he kept surrounding her like this, sooner or later she would leave an opening.

Outside, the Shadow Ninjas killed everyone they encountered. Though some teachers were doing their best to destroy these strange creatures, the number of Shadow Ninjas kept growing.

A woman in white held a cold-tipped spear and sent three Shadow Ninjas flying. Frowning, she asked her companion, "Where did these things come from?"

"I don't know, Teacher Bai. I was on my way to the dormitory when I saw all these monsters running wild." The short-haired woman beside her frowned in confusion as well.

Fortunately, a student nearby shouted hoarsely, "Teacher Qing Ya, they came out of Dormitory Building No. 8!"

The woman in white immediately fixed her gaze on a target, then spun around and sprang toward the dormitory building.

Surrounded by Shadow Ninjas, Shui Bing'er couldn't get out. She was terribly anxious.

What should she do? She couldn't keep this up forever!

She summoned more than ten Shadow Brutes, but the narrow corridor left them no room to fight.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Ninjas attacked with the ferocity of a wildfire sweeping across the plains. She could barely give them any orders.

Dai Xieyue stood with his arms folded, confident of victory.

Just as Shui Bing'er was beginning to panic, a sudden chill swept through the corridor.

Whoosh!

A long spear shot down the corridor straight at Dai Xieyue. Its sharp tip glinted with cold light, as if it could freeze a person's soul.

Dai Xieyue calmly tilted his head and dodged. A Shadow Brute grabbed the spear and stepped back twice. Waves of cold mist rose, and the spear turned into a puddle of water that splashed onto the floor.

Clack, clack—

Bai Qingya gripped her cold-tipped spear as she entered, her eyes fixed on the man before her, who wore half a mask. "You're the one who unleashed these creatures and killed innocent people?"

The scene fell silent. Her arrival drew the attention of Dai Xieyue and the others.

Teacher Bai! Shui Bing'er was startled. She wanted to ask for help, but couldn't make herself speak.

Dai Xieyue turned around and sneered, "You're so cool. Does your mom know?"

He spun and kicked horizontally at the other woman's spear, only for her to block it firmly.

The next moment, several streams of water wrapped around Dai Xieyue's leg and slammed him downward.

Bang!

The tremendous force smashed straight through the floor, dropping him into the level below. Dai Xieyue's face twisted in pain.

Damn, I forgot it was the Shadow Ninjas who were invincible, not me.

Dai Xieyue turned into a shadow and slipped into the corner of the wall, vanishing in an instant. But the Shadow Ninjas in the corridor were still there.

Shui Bing'er glanced at the hole in the floor, her eyes lighting up. The next moment—

Bang!

The Shadow Brute smashed a hole in the floor below. Shui Bing'er jumped through it and escaped at once, and the Shadow Brutes disappeared one after another.

Bai Qingya took a few steps forward and frowned as she looked down, but there was no sign of anyone below.

With no other choice, she swept her spear through the air, sending Shadow Ninjas flying one after another as she rescued the other students trapped in the dormitory building.

On the roof of the dormitory building, Dai Xieyue stood tall.

"Can't you smell things? Where did that woman go?"

"Get lost. I'm not a dog. I can't smell her."

"Useless!" Dai Xieyue's face darkened, and he couldn't help cursing.

He had lost his target. She had probably already left Skywater City, so he could only return and report to Shendu first.

"It's your fault I couldn't complete Shendu's mission."

"You're the one who's incompetent, and you blame me?" Qian Renxue showed him no mercy.

"Shut up!" Dai Xieyue's face turned ashen.

Nearby, a woman wearing a large blue hat leaned back calmly in her chair, her hands clasped together. "From what Teacher Bai described, the opponent was probably the Masked Man who broke into the imperial palace."

"Kyahaha! I've finally been resurrected!" The Evil Mask clung to Shui Bing'er's face and let out a maniacal laugh.

At the Pope Palace, Shendu was furious the moment he saw Dai Xieyue.

"You must be punished!" Shendu's voice was hoarse, and his eyes glowed with a vicious red light.

A beam of light shone down on Dai Xieyue, who rolled on the ground in agony.

"Ah! Master, please spare me! I'll never let this happen again." He endured the pain coursing through his body and begged humbly for mercy.

Beside him, Bibi Dong watched coldly, showing not a shred of sympathy. Hu Liena, however, was terrified. She huddled in a corner and covered her eyes, too afraid to look.

Shendu listened to Dai Xieyue's screams, his eyes still cold. Failing to obtain the Talisman was only one reason for punishing Dai Xieyue. More importantly, he wanted to make an example of him.

Bibi Dong seemed to have gotten a little too full of herself lately. He would kill Dai Xieyue to warn her.
