Background
Ling Sheng transmigrated to Douluo Continent in the form of a yellow, coiled-dragon stone sculpture sealed within a secret chamber beneath Spirit Hall's Pope Palace. His original powers were gone, while the twelve Zodiac Talismans that embodied them had scattered across the world. 2
During his arrival, he inherited the World God's divine position. To complete the inheritance, he must make Shendu's existence believable to the world's inhabitants while using accumulated divine power to repair the chaos and spatial fractures associated with demons and the merged worlds. 2 19
He adopted the identity of Shendu after Bibi Dong entered the chamber. By planting false historical records and exploiting her hatred of Qian Xunji, he made her believe that Shendu was an ancient demon sovereign and enlisted her in the hunt for the talismans. 3 6 8
As his historical patches accumulated, the Ancient World and its history increasingly became embedded into the world's historical river. Shendu's fabricated framework consequently acquired real, world-recognized substance, including ancient figures such as Daolon Wong and the Divine Cult. 83 91 113
Shendu later learned that the powers of the Eight Demons corresponded closely to the Dragon God's nine great abilities. He concluded that the Golden Dragon King, the Dragon God's memories, and the eight Demon elements could be used to revive the Dragon God. 72 176 188 194
Appearance
Shendu was initially confined to a primitive yellow stone sculpture mounted on the secret chamber wall. It resembled a coiled dragon or dragon-headed carving and spoke through a sinister, hoarse voice. 2 16
- Crimson eyes that glow when he uses or displays power. 2 8
- A dragon-shaped stone body over two meters in diameter. 2
- Can manifest holy light and an oppressive ancient aura through the sculpture. 3
- Is described as being sealed in statue form while his original strength remains depleted. 45
- Can manifest a translucent yellow dragon soul surrounded by spiritual flame through the Sheep Talisman. 77
- Regained a tall, imposing human form with long hair and golden robes by combining the Monkey and Sheep Talismans. 212
- After recovering the Mouse Talisman, manifests his true body as a golden humanoid dragon. 236 237
Personality
Shendu is calculating, theatrical, and deeply manipulative. He builds his authority through manufactured legends, staged “patches” to history, selective displays of divine power, and promises of strength that exceed the gods. 3 6 8
He is pragmatic about chaos: demon activity is useful when it creates belief and generates divine power, but only if he can afford to repair the damage afterward. He repeatedly weighs the cost of world fractures against the divine power gained from spreading fear of demons. 19 28 40
Despite presenting himself as an omnipotent ancient demon, Shendu is conscious of his weakened state and avoids direct confrontation when it would exhaust his reserves or expose him. He instead relies on Bibi Dong, Dai Xieyue, the Shadow Legion, and conflict among the other demons. 9 23 45
As his strength returns, Shendu becomes increasingly forceful in asserting his leadership over the other Demons. He regards betrayal as intolerable, yet can show selective mercy toward those he considers family or dependable subordinates, such as Xiao Yin, Dai Xieyue, and Xiao Feng. 176 227 238
Although he ultimately defeats the gods, suppresses the Demons, and unifies the world, Shendu finds no satisfaction in his final victory and leaves the Douluo World. 238
Abilities & Skills
World God's Divine Power
Shendu possesses divine power from the World God's inheritance, fueled by widespread belief in demons and in Shendu's existence.
- Repairs spatial cracks and world chaos caused by demonic interference. 19 28 40
- Creates convincing supernatural effects, including holy light and ancient pressure, to reinforce his false identity. 3 34
- Can strengthen selected subordinates directly with beams of power. 38 45
- Divine power is limited; excessive demonic destruction can force him to spend his reserves on repairs. 19 40
- Creates continent-spanning phenomena, including the Ancient Stone Stele and its pillar of light, to disseminate demon history and artifacts. 61 62
- Accumulated a vast sea of divine power through belief, allowing him to unleash divine power surpassing that of the God Realm's gods in the final battle. 93 238
Fire Demon Power
As the Fire Demon, Shendu possesses power over fire, destruction, and explosive rebirth.
- Uses Fire Demon Aura to form powerful flames, fire dragons, pressure, and destructive energy attacks. 193 215
- Uses Fire Demon Aura together with divine power to enter the seal of Dragon God's Forbidden Land without provoking its resistance. 188
- Can bestow Flame Demon Aura upon followers, substantially increasing their strength. 189 237
- Understands fire's ultimate destructive and creative aspects, which he considers integral to his destiny as the World God's inheritor. 61
Shadow Legion
Through the Ninja Mask, Shendu commands shadow-based soldiers from the Shadow Realm.
- Summons Shadow Ninjas, described as immortal and effectively limitless. 8
- Shadow troops can travel through shadows and conduct combat or pursuit operations. 8 19
- Shadow Ninjas have poor communication and lack spiritual power, making them unsuitable for locating talismans independently. 9
- Uses the Shadow Mask to bind and control human agents. 18
- Scattered a thousand Shadow Mask fragments, enabling their holders to command Shadow Ninjas and acting as his sources of information across the continent. 61 148 231
- Created and commands four Shadow Assassins, who serve as the hidden force securing Guan Shanyue's rule over Spirit Hall. 116 212
Shadow Mask Control
Shendu split his Shadow Mask and gave one half to Dai Xieyue.

- Allows Shendu's consciousness to encroach on the wearer’s mind. 18
- Ensures loyalty without completely replacing the host's personality when only half the mask is used. 18
- Can imprison Qian Renxue's soul within Dai Xieyue's body. 23
Consciousness Control
Shendu can implant or project his consciousness into other individuals, using them as spies, vessels, or unwilling agents.
- Takes control of Tang San's body to act within the God Realm and Dragon God's Forbidden Land. 128 188
- Controls or threatens Qian Renxue, Bo Saixi, and Feng Xiaotian through his consciousness and implanted power. 158 187 227
- Uses Tang San and other divine inheritors to transport Demon Auras into the God Realm. 194 227
- Can force a target into obedience by threatening to erase their consciousness, as he does to Feng Xiaotian. 188
Chronicle of Ages and Historical Patches
Shendu uses the Chronicle of Ages to introduce historical material, though its effects require World God divine power and must remain logically consistent.
- Fabricates diaries, legends, stone tablets, and books to establish demons as part of history. 3 8 42
- Avoids creating events or people without a plausible basis, as historical inconsistencies could cause catastrophic “bugs” or destabilize the world. 16
- Consolidates his fabricated ancient lore into the Book of Antiquity. 42
- Uses the Chronicle to establish the history of Demonic Qi, Righteous Qi, the Ancient World, and the supposed origin of the Evil God and God of Kindness through the Tiger Talisman. 81 122
- Can create world-recognized entities with complete histories and abilities, as demonstrated by Daolon Wong. 91
Demon Hell and Demon Portals
Shendu possesses access to Demon Hell, where the other seven demons were imprisoned.
- Can observe the imprisoned demons within the Demon Space. 2
- Opens Demon Portals to release specific demons into Douluo Continent. 25 26
- Released Zhong Su while deliberately postponing Ba Sha's release. 26
- Must account for the other demons’ hostility and independence before freeing them. 23
- Eventually orders Dai Xieyue to release Ba Sha in order to obtain the final elemental power needed for his Dragon God plan. 189 193
Zodiac Talismans
The twelve Zodiac Talismans are Shendu's lost powers, each representing a distinct ability.
- Tiger Talisman — regulates the balance of Yin and Yang; its split created Dai Mubai and Dai Xieyue. 16
- Ox Talisman — grants immense strength, enough to lift a mountain with ease. Shendu uses it to send Di Tian flying with one finger. 6 215
- Dragon Talisman — commands fire and produces scorching dragon flames. 6
- Sheep Talisman — permits Shendu's soul to leave his statue and manifest as a dragon soul. 77
- Monkey Talisman — allows transformation, including Shendu's restoration of a human form and Sky Dream Ice Silkworm's transformation into a human. 212 218
- Horse Talisman — protects Xiao Yin while Shendu extracts the Dragon God's memories from her. 176
- Mouse Talisman — turns stillness into motion and is essential to restoring Shendu's true body. 221 236
- Reclaiming talismans advances Shendu's divine trials and restores his original power. 6 16
- All twelve Talismans are gathered by the final battle, removing the last major limitation on his strength. 237
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Flaming greatsword — Shendu's manifested weapon used to execute the rebelling Demons. 237 238
Relationships
- Bibi Dong — originally Shendu's coerced collaborator and talisman hunter. She secretly resisted him and was ultimately killed; Shendu later remade her as the Shadow Assassin known as Scepter. 6 112 116

- Ba Sha — initially one of the imprisoned demons and formerly one of Shendu's better relationships. After her release, she submits to Shendu under threat of death but later turns against him with the other Demons. 23 193 234 237
- Xiao Feng — Wind Demon and the Demon Shendu treats most leniently. Xiao Feng joins the rebellion but is spared for the sake of their brotherhood; Shendu reduces his cultivation to that of a hundred-rank Soul Master. 238

- World God — source of Shendu's divine position, trials, divine power, affinity rewards, and inheritance artifact. 2 44
Story Role / Major Arcs
Establishing the Shendu Identity
Shendu turns Bibi Dong into his first believer by planting a diary that portrays Qian Xunji as his loyal servant and Shendu as an ancient ruler. Her blood activates the sculpture, allowing Shendu to reinforce the deception with divine light and pressure. 3
Search for the Zodiac Talismans
He orders Bibi Dong and later Dai Xieyue to retrieve the scattered talismans, promising power beyond the gods while using the recovered artifacts to advance his World God trials. 6 16 21 22 44
Dai Xieyue eventually recovers eleven Talismans for Shendu, while the Mouse Talisman is retrieved from Dragon God's Forbidden Land and sent back from the God Realm, allowing Shendu to regain his true body. 210 221 236
Fabrication of Demon History
To make demons a credible part of the world, Shendu creates false historical “patches” in the form of records, legends, tablets, and the Book of Antiquity. These materials fuel continent-wide belief and increase his divine power. 8 11 12 42
His patches eventually establish the Ancient World as a functioning historical reality, enabling the creation of ancient-era forces such as the Divine Capital and Daolon Wong. 83 91 113
Release of the Eight Demons
Shendu uses Demon Hell to release Zhong Su, calculating that the Thunder Demon's disruption will spread belief in demons. Zhong Su's uncontrolled actions force Shendu to repeatedly repair the resulting world fractures. 25 26 28 40
He later releases Ba Sha because her Water Demon element is required for his plan to revive the Dragon God. Although Ba Sha initially attacks him, Shendu crushes her rebellion and forces her submission. 189 193
Conflict with Hsi Wu and Zhong Su
Hsi Wu discovers Shendu's hiding place and dismisses his promises to free the other demons. Shendu later assists Hsi Wu's escape from Spirit Hall, while Zhong Su's expansionism becomes a growing concern that Shendu prefers to address through schemes rather than direct combat. 23 34 35 45
After Shendu's power rises, the other Demons increasingly acknowledge him as their leader, though they continue to distrust his methods and eventually unite against him. 77 78 169 234
Dragon God Resurrection Plan
After recognizing the connection between the Eight Demons and the Dragon God's abilities, Shendu develops a plan to revive and devour the Dragon God. He extracts the Dragon God's memories from Xiao Yin, confirms the Golden Dragon King's existence, and determines that all eight Demon elements are necessary. 176 188 194
Shendu uses divine inheritors and controlled agents to transport the eight Demon Auras into the God Realm. Once gathered, he absorbs them into Tang San's Demon-transformed body and prepares to send them into the Golden Dragon King. 194 211 227
Rule of Spirit Hall and the Divine Cult
Shendu raises Guan Shanyue as Pope, places Spirit Hall under the protection of his Shadow Assassins, and orders the unification of all forces not controlled by the Eight Demons, Divine Capital, or Beast God Empire. 212
Through Guan Shanyue, he establishes the Spirit Hall Empire. Through Daolon Wong, he commands the Divine Cult to seize the territories of the other Demons, intending to suppress the entire Eight Demons faction before the ancient seal is broken. 230 231
Final Demon Rebellion and Ragnarok
When Daolon Wong's war exposes Shendu's designs, the other Demons gather to confront him. Following the God Realm's descent, Zhou Lan and the other Demons attempt to submit to the gods rather than remain beneath Shendu's authority. 234 236
After Dai Xieyue returns the Mouse Talisman, Shendu escapes his statue prison in his true body. He grants Flame Demon Aura to the Divine Cult, rescues and empowers his inheritors, then kills the rebelling Demons with a flaming blade while sparing and crippling Xiao Feng. 236 237 238
Using the World-Destroying Battle Armor, all twelve Talismans, the eight demonic energies, and his accumulated divine power, Shendu defeats the God Realm's gods. He unifies the Douluo World but leaves through a spatial passage without taking pleasure in his victory. 238
Trivia
- Shendu considers maintaining logical consistency the most important rule when altering history through the Chronicle of Ages. 16
- He does not continuously read Bibi Dong's mind; doing so would consume significant divine power. 18
- He destroyed a 100,000-year God-Bestowed Spirit Ring because, as a non-Spirit Master, he considered it useless. 21
- He initially planned to release Ba Sha second-to-last and Zhou Lan last, based on their potential impact on the world. 26
- Shendu originally relied on visual effects and divine-power expenditure to make his dragon soul appear stronger than it truly was before the other Demons. 77
- The soul beasts of the Beast God Empire address Shendu as “Holy Venerable” after Di Tian and the Star Dou Great Forest submit to him. 218
