Background / History

Dai Xieyue originates as the evil half of Dai Mubai. A half Tiger Talisman divides Dai Mubai into two identical individuals: Xieyue, who retains his wickedness and arrogance, and Dai Shengyang, his upright counterpart. Flender cannot reunite them because both refuse to merge. Xieyue immediately clashes with Shengyang and behaves hostilely toward the new Shrek students. 13

After being defeated by Tang Hao, Xieyue leaves Shrek Academy with the Sacred Dragon Carving. Resentful and seeking power, he defects to Spirit Hall, where Bibi Dong brings him before Shendu. Shendu reclaims the Sacred Dragon Carving and Tiger Talisman from him, disregarding Xieyue's offer to help conquer the Star Luo Empire. 14 15 16

Shendu later grants Xieyue half of the Shadow Mask. The mask strengthens him while allowing Shendu's consciousness to encroach on his mind, making him absolutely loyal without wholly changing his original personality. Shendu appoints him First Captain of the Shadow Legion and uses him as an agent in the search for Talismans. 18

Following his repeated talisman missions, Shendu rapidly elevates Xieyue from a Spirit Emperor to a Soul Saint and then a Soul Douluo. Xieyue uses this strength to pursue both Shendu's Talismans and his personal vendettas against the Star Luo royal family. 38 45 55

Xieyue later returns to Star Luo during Dai Shengyang's Crown Prince investiture. Assisted by Hu Liena, he kills Dai Shengyang before escaping from the Star Luo Empire's Titled Douluo defenders. 149 150 151

After becoming a level 99 Limit Douluo empowered by Shendu's Fire Demon Aura, Xieyue attacks Star Luo Palace again, destroys the imperial resistance, and kills Yu Xiaogang, Tang San, and Flender while extracting the Pig Talisman's power from Yu Xiaogang's martial soul. 200 201 202

Having recovered further Talismans for Shendu, Xieyue is sent to the Destruction Temple after Shendu reclaims his Fire Demon Aura. He receives the God of Destruction's Nine Trials and is brought to the God Realm alongside Hu Liena, the inheritor of the Life God's Nine Trials. 210 211

Appearance

Dai Xieyue is physically identical to Dai Shengyang, as both originated from Dai Mubai's division. After entering Shendu's service, he is distinguished by his dark attire and a deep-crimson half-mask. 13 18 25

Personality

Xieyue is wicked, arrogant, confrontational, and deeply resentful of humiliation. He openly mocks Dai Shengyang, insults Tang San, and initially pursues strength in hopes of securing status and eventually settling old grievances tied to the Star Luo succession. 13 14 45

Although initially terrified of Shendu, he comes to express fanatical devotion after receiving the Shadow Mask. This loyalty is not wholly voluntary: the mask suppresses his independence through Shendu's consciousness. He remains ambitious and cruel, however, taking pleasure in destruction and threatening civilians when his talisman hunts fail. 18 21 24

Xieyue is obsessive about vengeance and takes the Star Luo royal succession personally. He seeks to kill Dai Weisi and Dai Shengyang so that the Dai Clan will have no heirs, and he eventually murders Shengyang at his investiture ceremony. 55 89 150

Despite his arrogance, Xieyue is diligent in fulfilling Shendu's orders. His consistent service earns sufficient trust for Shendu to entrust him with the Dragon God memories and the Mouse Talisman. 197 227
