Moonlit Confessions and the Final Vow

On the eve of the finals, moonlight blanketed Konoha, draping a sorrowful veil over the village as it braced for the coming storm.

In the little courtyard, Naruto had already fallen fast asleep, clutching his shabby fox plushie, a trace of drool at the corner of his mouth. Ling sat by the bed and gently tucked in the covers, his fingertips brushing over the golden hair that looked especially soft in the moonlight. The little guy unconsciously nuzzled his fingers in his sleep and mumbled a muffled "Big brother..." before rolling over and continuing his Hokage dream.

Looking at Naruto's sleeping face, free of all gloom, Ling felt something stir within him. The cold, hard shell around his heart quietly cracked, revealing the tenderness hidden beneath. This was the child he had risked everything to save from the Nine-Tails' rampage, the one who trusted him without reservation and saw him as the light of his whole world. Amid all his schemes and plans, Naruto was the one weakness he could not afford to lose—and the warmest light on his dark road.

"Whatever happens, I'll protect you, Naruto." His low vow echoed through the silent room, more resolute than any boast.

He rose and went to the window, his gaze turning toward the Uchiha Clan Compound. All that remained there now was a wasteland sealed off by a barrier—and a lonely soul consumed by hatred. Sasuke... Recalling the more somber look in Sasuke's eyes when they had run into each other on the training ground that day, as if he carried all the torments of hell on his shoulders, Ling felt a complex ripple stir within him. Sasuke was the last of his kin still bound to him by blood. He understood that hatred and had once considered dragging Sasuke out of the abyss by force, but in the end, he had chosen to respect his wishes. Everyone had their own path to walk. All Ling could do was leave Sasuke the chance to turn back before he lost himself completely—and be the rope that kept him from plunging over the edge when the crucial moment came.

"System," he silently said, "run the final simulation. Confirm all deployments and contingency plans."

[Final tactical simulation initiated... Integrating all known variables...] [Simulation results: Probability of the Konoha Crush Plan being triggered: 99.8%. With 'Dawn Wind' intervening, probability of completing core objectives (protecting Naruto and eliminating key threats): 82.5%. Major variables: Uchiha Obito, Shimura Danzō.]

82.5%... There was still a risk. Ling took a deep breath and suppressed his last trace of hesitation. People could make plans, but fate had the final say. He had done everything he could.

He used the Flying Thunder God to reach the hideout in Tanzaku Town.

Everyone was there, the atmosphere grim, like an arrow poised to fly. The moment Ling appeared, all eyes turned to him.

Uchiha Izumi stepped forward and handed him a kunai inscribed with a complex formula. Her eyes held undisguised concern and trust. "Ling, be careful."

Ling took the kunai and nodded, his gaze sweeping over everyone. Zabuza, cold and dependable; Haku, kind and resilient; Kimimaro, silent and loyal; and the surviving Uchiha, whose eyes burned with the flame of a new beginning. They had rallied around him, and tomorrow, they would enter the battlefield by his side.

"Everyone," Ling said. His voice was not loud, yet it reached every ear clearly. "Tomorrow's battle isn't about justice. It's about survival and the future. We may not be able to change the course of the entire battle, but we won't yield an inch of what we're sworn to protect!"

He didn't shout or make some rousing speech, but the resolve and conviction in his words quietly set everyone's blood ablaze.

"For Lord Ling!" Kimimaro was the first to drop to one knee.

"For Dawn Wind!" Haku followed close behind.

"To stay alive!" Zabuza slung his massive sword over his shoulder and grinned.

"For... a new Uchiha!" Tears welled in Izumi's and the survivors' eyes, but their gazes remained firm.

Ling looked at their faces, a strange warmth welling up in his chest. He was no longer alone. He had people to protect, and comrades he could trust to watch his back.

"Stick to the plan." Those were the only four words he said in the end.

By the time Ling returned to the little courtyard in Konoha, the sky had begun to pale. A new day was about to begin. He stood in the courtyard and gave himself one last check. His chakra was full, his mind was sharp, his Flying Thunder God marks were clear, and the Nine-Tails' chakra flowed docilely beneath its seal.

He looked up toward Kage Rock in the distance, its outline gradually emerging in the dawn. The First, the Second, the Third... and the Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, hailed as the "Yellow Flash."

"Father..." The unfamiliar word rose naturally in his heart and passed soundlessly over his lips. He had inherited the jutsu of a father he had never met, as well as his will to protect Konoha—though in his own way.

The morning breeze stirred his black hair, bringing a hint of chill. He closed his eyes and cast aside every stray thought.

When the sun had fully risen, when the Chunin Ninja Exams finals began, when the cheers of the crowd and the fangs hidden in the shadows were revealed together...

That would be the moment for him, Uchiha Ling, and his "Dawn Wind" to step onto the stage!
