Background / History

Naruto was born during the Nine-Tails’ attack on Konoha. Rather than becoming its jinchūriki, he was saved when Uchiha Ling chose to seal half of the Nine-Tails inside himself. Ling then became Naruto’s protector and older-brother figure, establishing an unusually absolute bond of trust from Naruto’s infancy 1.

After Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki died, the Third Hokage placed Naruto and Ling under protection, first in an orphanage and later in a monitored courtyard. Naruto feared strangers and consistently sought Ling for safety; Ling used Sage chakra to soothe him when he cried 2 5.
