Background / History

Shrek Academy took notice of Lin Yao after his martial soul awakening produced a purple pillar of light. Mu En, the Sea God Pavilion Master, personally arranged for him to be invited, sending Yan Shaozhe to the Lin Mansion with a recommendation letter. Yan Shaozhe argued that the Douling Empire's educational standards would waste Lin Yao's talent and instructed him to enroll with the incoming freshmen when he reached the appropriate age. 5

The academy's influence is strong enough that Lin Xueli regarded the invitation as effectively unavoidable. Lin Yao later described the academy as a means to gain freedom and improve his standing, rather than a place where he intended to remain permanently. 6 16

Five years later, Lin Yao and Ye Guyi arrived at Shrek City and were received by Inner Court students. Despite the special invitation, Lin Yao was required to begin in the Outer Court and prove himself before gaining Inner Court qualifications. 19

Sea God Pavilion

The Sea God Pavilion is led by Mu En. Its decisions carry authority over academy affairs, including disciplinary action against Inner Court disciples. Mu En was responsible for bringing Lin Yao into the academy and was said to favor grooming him as a future Sea God Pavilion Master successor. 5 21 22

Outer Court and Inner Court

• The Outer Court is the entry point for regular students, including specially invited talents such as Lin Yao. 19

Freshman Assessment

The exam's content is confidential, but Wang Yan compares its minimum difficulty to defeating a hundred-year soul beast alone; intervention by a supervising teacher ends the assessment. 48

Failure ends a student's course of study without a graduation certificate. 48
