Background / History

Naruto grows up isolated in Konoha due to the Nine-Tails sealed within him. Academy students call him a “demon fox,” and Naruto gradually comes to believe that he may truly be responsible for the deaths associated with the Nine-Tails attack. Kei is the person who consistently remains at his side through this treatment. 6

At the Academy entrance examination, Naruto and Kei are both poor at shuriken throwing. Naruto supports Kei and later manages to barely pass a retake after Kei encourages him. Their friendship develops through shared meals at Ichiraku Ramen and repeated shuriken practice in the woods. 1 2 4

After Naruto's Nine-Tails chakra begins to surface uncontrollably, he seeks Kei's help. He partially beastifies and attacks Kei, but Kei enters the sealing space and negotiates with Kurama. Naruto is energetic, blunt, and deeply determined to become Hokage. He views the title as Konoha's highest honor and reacts with disbelief when Kei dismisses the position as burdensome. 29

Despite enduring isolation and prejudice, Naruto retains a strong desire to protect others. He worries about hurting Kei during his loss of control, tries to defend Twilight Spring Valley, and becomes distressed when Sakura is endangered during Team Seven's assessment. 26 34 49

His confidence can become comical overconfidence: after being told that he is a genius, he immediately declares himself more talented than Sasuke. However, he has also developed greater composure and resilience, no longer allowing classmates' gossip to completely break him. 29 46

Naruto has become increasingly analytical in combat. During the Wave Country mission, he identifies Zabuza's Water Clone and directs his teammates to remain calm rather than panic. 53
