Chapter Thirty-Five
"This is..."
Lynn fixed his gaze on the yellow crystal, his brow furrowing slightly.
Though he could not immediately identify what it was, based on his limited knowledge of materials, Lynn could tell that this crystal was most likely some kind of Magic Stone.
He just did not know its exact purpose, especially why White, a First-Level Wizard Apprentice, had been carrying such a peculiar Magic Stone.
Moreover, White seemed to have shouted out an order related to The Furnace's mission just now?
As Lynn pondered, he suddenly sensed an unusual aura.
Two corpses actually lunged at him.
Those two corpses had originally been harassing other Wizard Apprentices, but they suddenly abandoned their targets and turned toward him.
Farther away, other corpses also seemed to be approaching him.
"Is it this thing?!"
Lynn's expression shifted slightly, and a trace of vigilance flashed through his eyes.
That yellow crystal could actually draw zombified corpses toward it. This completely went against his plan to throw the match.
If he delayed any longer, more corpses would likely gather, eventually drawing everyone else's attention.
Whether they were allies or enemies, Lynn did not want to be noticed.
His figure flashed as he nimbly evaded the attacks of the two corpses, then swiftly approached the yellow crystal.
Although White had originally carried the item, Lynn still carefully scooped it up with his sleeve. Only after adding another layer of Heart of Flower Language patterns did he pick it up.
"What intense light energy particles! It's practically like a miniature sun!"
Lynn was shocked by the immense energy contained within the crystal.
At the same time, a thought flashed through his mind.
The power of a spell was usually measured in degrees, with each degree based on the energy released by the explosion of one standard unit of Magic Fire Stone.
If Magic Fire Stones could explode, then could this yellow Magic Stone also possibly explode?
As he considered it, Lynn suddenly realized that this yellow Magic Stone might not be as simple as merely exploding.
In Night Shadow Bunker, where negative energy particles were especially dense, if the light energy particles within the yellow Magic Stone exploded, they seemed capable of neutralizing the surrounding negative energy particles.
Between heaven and earth, all kinds of energy particles countered one another. It was not only water elements that could suppress fire elements; ice and earth elements could also restrain and offset them.
And light energy particles were among the energy particles capable of effectively canceling negative energy particles.
"Once this thing explodes, it will obviously cause enormous interference to the negative energy particles nearby. Perhaps I now understand why White, a First-Level Wizard Apprentice, managed to survive until now..."
Lynn drew a deep breath, his brow tightly knit.
First-Level Wizard Apprentices had not yet gained the ability to absorb energy particles into their bodies, so they could not accurately sense the energy state within a Magic Stone.
Apprentices like White probably had no idea what exactly they had brought in.
They thought they were merely carrying out some mission for The Furnace, completely unaware of the danger this Magic Stone might bring.
"The Furnace must have prepared plenty of First-Level Wizard Apprentices long ago, treating them as 'human bombs' and having them carry these things onto the battlefield!"
A chill ran down Lynn's spine. At last, he understood why those Official Wizards had ordered apprentices like them to risk entering the Sky Curtain.
Those seemingly meaningless deaths were actually carefully calculated "sacrifices."
To those Official Wizards, the lives of these apprentices were merely pawns used to pave the way, meant to create favorable conditions for The Furnace's upper ranks.
On the surface, The Furnace's battle plan was to send massive numbers of apprentices into the Sky Curtain, block Night Shadow Bunker's attacks, and gradually advance inward.
But in reality, they were only creating opportunities for those First-Level Wizard Apprentices carrying Magic Stones.
"When the time comes and these yellow Magic Stones explode, they will inevitably cause tremendous interference to the negative energy particles here..."
"Is this the foresight of that Black Dragon Witch? Planning everything from behind the scenes, treating human lives like blades of grass, as if she were playing chess. Every move she makes, no matter how many pawns die on the board, does not matter. What matters is that the 'king' and 'queen' remain safe."
From Lynn's perspective, by connecting the clues before and after, he had more or less pieced together some of the thoughts of that witch above the Black Dragon.
As for whether that witch had any other plans, that was beyond Lynn's ability to guess.
"This Magic Stone is a hot potato. I need to get rid of it quickly, and I need to stay away from those First-Level Wizard Apprentices..."
Watching the zombified corpses clumsily rise and lunge at him again, Lynn's eyes flickered. After dodging their attacks, he tossed the Magic Stone into the hood of his robe.
Then Lynn rapidly fled without daring to pause for even a moment, all while keeping an eye on the First-Level Wizard Apprentices among The Furnace's many apprentices.
With the Crystal Ball's effect, Lynn could detect the strength levels of those Wizard Apprentices and steer clear of the First-Level Wizard Apprentices.
At the very top of Night Shadow Bunker stood three figures: the Lord of Night Shadow Bunker, the Lionheart Knight, and a white-haired old man.
This white-haired elder was the Third-Rank Grand Wizard of the Bitter Heart Sect.
Now, three Level 3 Great Wizards had gathered together, their hawk-like eyes watching every detail of the battlefield.
The Lionheart Knight crossed his arms over his chest. His sharp gaze swept across the entire battlefield before he said unhurriedly:
"You should be able to guess what The Furnace's hunt, held once every ten years, is really for."
The Night Shadow Lord and the Leader of Bitter Heart Sect exchanged glances. After a brief silence, the Night Shadow Lord spoke in a deep voice:
"After Level 3 Great Wizards come Level 4 Wizards, usually honored as Morning Star Wizards. They can already travel among the stars, wage war upon different planes, and even conduct in-depth research into worlds beyond the Wizard World."
The Leader of Bitter Heart Sect immediately added:
"The Lord of the Furnace has likely already locked onto a powerful planar world, but he does not yet have enough confidence to conquer it. Thus, through his once-in-a-decade hunts, he trains a powerful army and waits for the right moment to invade."
The Lionheart Knight chuckled, a cold smile tugging at his lips. "Heh, correct."
He paused, then looked thoughtfully at the two Great Wizards. "Then do you know why I came to help you?"
The Night Shadow Lord and the Leader of Bitter Heart Sect exchanged glances, their eyes filled with confusion. They truly did not know the answer to that question.
They both knew of the Lionheart Knight's past. He had once been merely a Level 2 Wizard, but after devouring his mentor's power, he had defected from White Heart Tower and sought to break through to become a Level 3 Great Wizard.
However, they both knew that the threshold of Level 3 was not so easily crossed.
Especially for a Bloodline Wizard, the little bit of bloodline energy within his teacher's body was simply not enough to support a breakthrough.
Yet after seeing the Lionheart Knight's true form, they were shocked to discover that he had successfully broken through to the level of a Level 3 Great Wizard. It was unimaginable.
The Lionheart Knight smiled faintly, seemingly in high spirits, before saying in a low voice:
"Heh, I can tell you this: the coordinates of that world the Lord of the Furnace has locked onto were stolen from My Master!"
He let out a sinister laugh. His voice was cold, yet it involuntarily caused the breathing of the two Level 3 Great Wizards to quicken...
The Lionheart Knight's master... what level of existence was that?
