Background

Yamcha lived as a desert bandit alongside his companion Puar. He avoided women because touching one caused him to lose consciousness; when Xiao Wu greeted him during his first encounter with Li Xing's group, he fled immediately. 10 11

Despite his fear, Yamcha later targeted Li Xing, Xiao Wu, and Ashu for robbery. He attempted a night ambush, but Li Xing anticipated the attack, injured him, and knocked Puar unconscious. Yamcha remained the stronger fighter in their encounter, owing to his greater combat experience. 11

After retreating, Yamcha pursued Li Xing again. Li Xing temporarily suppressed him using Devour Ability, then escaped by falsely claiming that Bulma was coming to force him into marriage. Yamcha believed the bluff enough to send Puar to investigate. 13

Appearance

Yamcha is depicted as a weathered desert fighter whose face reddens with anger during battle. 12

His confidence repeatedly becomes recklessness. Although he recognizes Li Xing as weak during their desert clashes, he underestimates Li Xing's later growth and enters their semi-final match without grasping the gap between them. 13 33

Yamcha is also a criminally inclined desert bandit in this period, prepared to rob and kill Li Xing's group. His intense fear of women remains a decisive weakness: merely seeing Xiao Wu makes him flee, while the prospect of Bulma disrupts his judgment. 10 11 13

Desert Encounters

Yamcha first encounters Li Xing's party in the desert but runs from Xiao Wu due to his phobia. He returns at night to rob them, beginning a series of clashes with Li Xing. 10 11

Li Xing injures Yamcha and Puar in the ambush, then gains a significant physique and energy increase after striking Yamcha in their continued fight. Yamcha retreats with Puar and vows to return. 11 12

Yamcha catches Li Xing again the next day and dominates their exchange until Li Xing deceives him with the fabricated story involving Bulma. 13

22nd Martial Arts Tournament

At the tournament, Yamcha publicly boasts about the Wolf Fang Fist and declares that he can defeat Li Xing. He draws number three, arranging a potential semi-final against Li Xing, and seeks the match specifically to demonstrate that he is not inferior to Master Roshi's disciples. 29 30

After Li Xing defeats Jackie Chun, Yamcha remains overconfident despite Krillin's and Sun Wukong's concern. He wins his own match and advances to face Li Xing. 33

Li Xing kills Yamcha at the start of their semi-final with an overwhelming attack, reducing him to a mist of blood and leaving no remains. Sun Wukong's warning comes too late. 33

Aftermath

Yamcha's death throws the tournament into panic and drives Sun Wukong and Bulma to pursue Li Xing. Bulma is devastated and asks Sun Wukong to avenge him. 34
