Background / History

Pilaf led the Pilaf Gang alongside Xiao Wu and Ashu while pursuing the Dragon Balls. Frustrated by his subordinates’ prolonged absence, he began seeking technological means to locate additional Dragon Balls and threatened to punish them on their return. Despite his temper, Xiao Wu and Ashu remained loyal to him at the time. 9

After Xiao Wu and Ashu returned to Pilaf Castle with wealth taken from Fire Mountain, they renounced him and declared Li Xing their new leader. Pilaf attempted to access the castle’s defenses, but Li Xing intercepted him and offered a contest: if Pilaf could win by any means, Li Xing would leave. Pilaf lost, then accepted Li Xing’s offer to become a researcher after being promised wealth and a better life. 16

Li Xing redirected Pilaf’s ambition from kingship toward building a vast business empire. Pilaf helped launch a satellite, improve computers, and develop smart terminals, becoming Aurora Group’s Chief Scientist with authority over its researchers and research direction. 17 18

Pilaf later joined Polar Night under the codename Aeon Light, serving as its second-ranked member while continuing his Aurora Group work. 19 20 When Sun Wukong’s group pursued Li Xing to Pilaf Castle, Pilaf assisted in trapping and pranking them, then abandoned the castle with the group on Li Xing’s orders. 23

Five months later, Pilaf remained devoted to research rather than city life, romance, or conventional ambition. Li Xing subsequently pushed him to focus Aurora Group’s resources on martial applications of technology, including mechs, training facilities, scanners, nutrient solutions, nanomaterials, weapons, and spacecraft. 24 26

Personality

Pilaf is ambitious, greedy, and highly motivated by wealth, food, and the prospect of living like a king. His original aspiration is notably simple: unlimited delicious food and the ability to discard what he cannot finish, rather than conquest or oppression. 16

Though prone to arrogance, outbursts, and foolish conclusions, Pilaf is a capable scientist with strong numerical aptitude. He can be persuaded by grand technological and financial visions, reacts eagerly to the possibility of aliens and space travel, and ultimately prefers concentrating on research over pursuing relationships or relocating for business. 17 18 24
