Background / History

Cell was originally hidden near the ruins of Son Gohan’s devastated future timeline. He monitored Gohan after the battle with Androids 17 and 18, intending to exploit any opening to absorb the Android siblings and achieve his desired evolution. Rather than intervene directly, he waited as a patient hunter for Gohan to become a useful distraction. 2

A far stronger alternate Cell later arrived in the main timeline through a Capsule Corporation time machine. Already in Perfect Form, he immediately devoured the local Perfect Cell, declaring himself the sole “ultimate perfection.” This act created Ultimate Cell, whose power had grown through traveling across parallel timelines and consuming versions of himself. 9

Ultimate Cell revealed that his own Earth had been destroyed and its human population killed. He taunted Young Trunks with the death of Trunks’ mother, provoking Trunks into attacking him. 11

After battling Son Gohan, Ultimate Cell evolved into Golden Cell, a form he described as transcending perfection. Although Golden Cell repeatedly regenerated from catastrophic injuries and attempted to destroy Earth when cornered, Son Gohan ultimately destroyed him in space after restoring his tail and recovering with a Senzu Bean. 15 17 19
