Kashu's attempt failed. Not because Buu was evil, but because someone had angered him. It happened a week later. After leaving the spaceship, Buu wandered aimlessly. He passed through a small town, and the townspeople were frightened to see a fat pink man walking down the street. Someone called the police. When they arrived, they tried to arrest Buu. Buu didn't understand why. He didn't want to hurt anyone, but the police pointed their guns at him and shouted, "Don't move!" Frightened, Buu ran. The police chased after him, firing their guns. The bullets struck Buu without hurting him, but they made him ache. Buu stopped and turned to face the police. The honest, simple smile had vanished from his face, replaced by hurt and anger. "It hurts," Buu said. "You made Buu hurt." The police kept shooting. Buu reached out his hand, and a pink energy wave shot from his palm, hitting the police car. The car exploded, flames shooting into the sky.

The police scattered in terror. Buu looked at his hand, confused. He didn't know how he had done it, but his instincts told him he could do more. He began destroying things. Not because he wanted to, but because he thought destruction was fun. The flames of an exploding car looked beautiful to him; the dust from a collapsing building seemed magnificent. Like a child discovering a new toy, he tried all kinds of ways to destroy things, unable to stop. Within half an hour, the town had become a ruin. Fortunately, no one died. Buu's destruction was more like a mischievous child's prank than a deliberate massacre. People had escaped and were hiding at a distance, watching in horror as the pink monster destroyed their homes. When Goku arrived, Buu was sitting on the ruins, happily licking an ice cream cone he had found in a convenience store.

"Buu," Goku said, flying up in front of him, "you can't do this." Buu looked up at Goku and smiled. "Son Goku! Did you come to play with Buu?" "This isn't a game," Goku said sternly. "You destroyed the town. That's wrong." Buu tilted his head. "Wrong? Why is it wrong? Buu thinks it's fun." "The town is people's home," Goku said. "You destroyed their homes, and they'll be sad." Buu thought about it, and his smile slowly faded. "Sad... Buu knows sad. Buu used to be sad, too." "Used to?" "Babidi," Buu said. "Babidi made Buu sad. He hit Buu, yelled at Buu, and made Buu do things Buu didn't want to do. Buu was sad." Goku fell silent. Buu stood up, tossed away the ice cream stick, and looked at the ruins. "Buu did something wrong," he said. "Buu shouldn't make other people sad."

He raised both hands, and his body began to glow. Pink light poured from within him, enveloping the whole town. Shards of rubble began to float and fit back together, as if the footage were playing in reverse. Buildings rose from the debris, cracks in the streets healed, and leaves sprouted anew on the trees that had burned.

A few minutes later, the town had been restored. It was even more beautiful than before. Goku's eyes widened. "You... you can fix things?" "Buu can," Buu said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Buu can destroy things, and Buu can fix them. Buu can do anything." Goku smiled. "Buu, you're a good person." "Good?" Buu tilted his head. "Buu isn't good. Buu is Majin Buu." "Even a Majin can do good things," Goku said, "as long as you choose to." Buu was silent for a long time, then nodded. "Buu understands. Buu will try to do good things." Goku brought Buu back to the base. When East Supreme Kai saw Buu walk in, he nearly fell out of his chair in fright. But Kashu stopped him from panicking. "Buu is our guest," Kashu said, "not our enemy." East Supreme Kai opened his mouth, but in the end, said nothing.

Buu settled in at the base. He was curious about everything—the holographic projector, the gravity chamber, the energy furnace, the frozen food... Like a newborn baby, he was eager to explore the world around him.

Android 18 became Buu's "guardian." Kashu asked her to look after Buu because she was the most patient member of the team—at least when Kashu was around. Buu liked Android 18 very much. He always followed her around, calling her "Big Sister Lazuli." Lazuli was uncomfortable with it at first, but gradually got used to it. She taught Buu how to read, do arithmetic, cook, and clean. Buu learned quickly. His memory was incredible, and he never forgot anything he saw. But Buu had one problem: his emotions were unstable. The smallest thing could make him laugh, and the smallest thing could also make him furious. When he was happy, he was the cutest creature in the world; when he was angry, he was the most terrifying demon. The problem came to a head in the second week. Satan's Courage. It all started with Mr. Satan. This "strongest man on Earth" had heard there was a pink monster at the base and volunteered to come "eliminate" it. He brought a camera crew to the base's entrance and demanded to see Buu. Kashu had intended to refuse, but Buu came out on his own. "Someone looking for Buu?" Buu asked, looking curiously at Mr. Satan. Mr. Satan's first reaction to seeing Buu was: What is that thing?

His second reaction was: How can anything be that ugly? His third reaction was: I have to beat him up on camera! "You're Majin Buu?" Mr. Satan struck a fighting pose. "I'm Mr. Satan, the strongest man on Earth! I'm here to eliminate you!" Buu tilted his head. "Eliminate? You're going to kill Buu?" "That's right!" Mr. Satan charged forward and punched Buu in the stomach. His fist sank into Buu's soft belly, like he was punching a pillow. Mr. Satan froze for a moment, then punched him again, with the same result. He threw more than a dozen punches, but Buu didn't budge. Instead, he looked curious. "Are you tickling Buu?" Buu asked. Mr. Satan's face flushed red. He couldn't afford to lose face in front of the cameras, so he started kicking Buu, headbutting him, and even biting him. Buu still didn't budge. "Are you done playing?" Buu asked. "Buu wants to go back." "You're not going anywhere!" Panicking, Mr. Satan pulled a bomb from his pocket and shoved it into Buu's mouth. The bomb exploded, blowing Buu's head off. The whole crowd fell silent. The camera crew screamed in terror, and Mr. Satan froze. He had only wanted to scare Buu; he hadn't expected the bomb to actually go off. He stared at Buu's headless body, his legs trembling. "I... I killed him? I killed Majin Buu?" But in the next moment, Buu's body began to change. Flesh sprouted rapidly from his neck, and within seconds, a brand-new head had grown. Buu blinked and looked at Mr. Satan, his expression slightly displeased.

"It hurts," Buu said. "You made Buu hurt." A red glint flashed in his eyes. Kashu and Android 18 rushed out of the base, but they were already too late. Buu let out a furious roar, and the shock wave sent Mr. Satan and the camera crew flying. His body began to swell, his pink skin turning dark red, and his eyes filled with murderous intent. "Buu! Calm down!" Kashu shouted. But Buu couldn't hear him. There was only one thought in his mind: That person had made Buu hurt, so Buu would make him hurt, too. He raised his hand, and a pink ball of energy formed in his palm. It grew bigger and brighter, powerful enough to level all of West City. Mr. Satan lay on the ground, staring at the energy ball, finally realizing what a terrible mess he had gotten himself into. He closed his eyes, ready to face death. But death never came. He opened his eyes and saw someone standing in front of him.

"Mr. Satan." It was no one else but himself. But it wasn't really him, either. The "Satan" standing before him wore the same clothes, had the same mustache, and stood in the same pose. Only his body was translucent, glowing with a faint light. "Stand up," the translucent Satan said. Mr. Satan froze. "Who... who are you?" "I'm your courage," the translucent Satan said. "You've never lacked strength. What you lack is the courage to admit you're not strong enough." Tears streamed down Mr. Satan's face. Ever since he was a child, he had been taught to become the strongest man, to protect everyone, and never to show weakness or admit defeat. He had become the world champion through lies and showmanship, but deep down, he knew better than anyone just how weak he was.

"I... I can't do it," Mr. Satan sobbed. "I'm not a hero." "You don't need to be a hero," Courage Satan said. "You just need to be someone who doesn't give up."

Mr. Satan took a deep breath and stood up. He looked at the energy ball in Buu's hand and did something nobody expected. He walked over to Buu, then knelt before him. "I'm sorry," Mr. Satan said. "I was wrong. I shouldn't have blown you up with a bomb. I shouldn't have made you hurt." Buu froze for a moment. The energy ball dimmed a little. "Buu is very angry," he said. "Buu wants to destroy everything." "You can destroy everything," Mr. Satan said, "but would that make you happy?"

Buu fell silent. He remembered what had happened in the town. He had destroyed it, but he hadn't been happy. Instead, when he had repaired the town and seen the people return to their homes, he had felt a strange sense of satisfaction. "No," Buu said. "Buu wouldn't be happy." "Then don't destroy anything," Mr. Satan said. "You can punish me. But don't hurt anyone else." Buu looked into Mr. Satan's eyes. They held no fear or deceit, only sincerity. The energy ball vanished. Buu's body returned to its original pink, and the red glint in his eyes disappeared. He crouched down, looked at Mr. Satan, and held out his hand.

"Your name is Satan?" Buu asked. "Yes." "Satan," Buu repeated. "You're a good person. Like Son Goku, you're a good person." Mr. Satan took Buu's hand and stood up. "I'm not a good person," Mr. Satan said. "I'm a liar. But I'll try to become a good person." Buu smiled happily. "Buu likes Satan. Will Satan be Buu's friend?" Mr. Satan froze for a moment, then nodded. "Okay. We'll be friends." From that day on, Mr. Satan and Buu became best friends. Mr. Satan often came to the base to play with Buu. They played video games, watched cartoons, and ate ice cream together. Buu was always happy around Mr. Satan, and his moods grew much more stable.

Watching all this, East Supreme Kai couldn't believe it. "He actually... tamed Majin Buu?" "He didn't tame him," Kashu said. "He became his friend. Buu doesn't need a master. He needs a friend." East Supreme Kai was silent for a long time, then sighed. "Maybe... maybe I was wrong about Buu."
