Background / History

Jiang Ziya spent decades cultivating at Kunlun Mountain under the Primordial Heavenly Lord and became a disciple of Yuxu Palace. Despite his Daoist arts, he did not attain the Immortal Path and was sent down the mountain. 6 75

After forty years apart, he sought out and reunited with his sworn brother Song Yiren at Song Family Village. Song repeatedly urged him to marry; Jiang initially refused, but later wore wedding robes and married Ma, who eventually became his ex-wife. 1 5 12 634

At the village, Jiang treated Lu Chuan's mental deficiency by forming a glowing talisman from spiritual energy and opening his sealed spiritual apertures. Lu Chuan subsequently sought him out as a master. 2 7

Jiang Ziya is an elderly, white-haired Daoist with a refined, unusual bearing. Though initially poor and shabbily presented, his position in Xiqi later transforms his appearance into that of a vigorous, luxuriously dressed chancellor. 1 116

Jiang Ziya is kind, restrained, and principled. He refuses gratitude offered for treating Lu Chuan, forgives commoners who were deceived into accusing him during the Jade Stone Pipa Spirit incident, and remains composed under Shen Gongbao's provocations. 5 73 208
