Background / History

Yang Jian is the second child of Fairy Yunhua, Haotian's younger sister, and was raised at Guanjiang Mouth. As a child of human-divine parentage, he was also known as Er-lang of Guankou. His father and elder brother were killed during the Heavenly Court's pursuit of his family, while Yunhua was imprisoned beneath Peach Mountain. 82 252

He became the disciple of Yuding the True Person and cultivated at Golden Glow Cave. Though already capable and proud, he remained burdened by the question of whether his mother's relationship with a mortal had truly been wrong; the conflict troubled him for five years. 82 85

Seeking to free Yunhua, Yang Jian searched numerous mountains for King Yu's lost Mountain-Opening Axe. Although the Human Race treasure's bloodline restriction nearly prevented his mixed heritage from claiming it, he ultimately obtained the axe and used it in an attempt to cleave open Peach Mountain. 245 247 250

His rescue attempt drew the intervention of Bai Wei, the Heavenly Court's Judicial High God. Yang Jian fought despite being exhausted by the Mountain-Opening Axe, but Bai Wei overwhelmed him until Yuding arrived and protected him as his disciple. 252 253

Taibai Jinxing then delivered a Heavenly Court decree pardoning Yang Jian and Yang Chan. Yang Jian accepted divine status to clear his family's name and work toward Yunhua's release; the condition was for the siblings to accumulate 100,000 merits. His acceptance caused the Mountain-Opening Axe to abandon him. 254

Stationed at Guanjiang Mouth, Yang Jian devoted himself to subduing demons and eliminating monsters to earn those merits. He later accumulated the full 100,000 merits and became a True Immortal, but retained an independent relationship with the Heavenly Court: he obeyed deployments while refusing to submit to condescending proclamations. 274 676

Appearance

After obtaining the Heavenly Eye, Yang Jian is marked by the divine eye between his brows. In battle against the West Sea Dragon Clan, he wears black robes beneath silver armor and fights with a Three-Pointed Blade. 274 773

He is reserved, proud, and often solitary, but not emotionally detached. Before becoming a god, he spends nights contemplating his family beneath the moon and struggles to reconcile his mother's suffering with the Heavenly Court's laws. 84 85

On the battlefield, Yang Jian is a composed strategist as well as a formidable fighter. His plans are praised by Guangchengzi and Chi Jingzi, while Lu Chuan regards him as Xiqi's foremost strategist among the Exposition Sect's third-generation disciples. 311 367

His later role as Judicial God exposes a contradiction in his character. He seeks to reform the rigid Heavenly Law that destroyed his family, yet reacts with fury when Yang Chan repeats Yunhua's forbidden relationship with a mortal. 942 960 961
