Before they could recover from the alarm of the [High-Energy Reaction], a powerful beam of light grazed the edge of the Star Origin.
[Shields dropped: 350]
???
"Target..."
"Wait, Boss! That attack wasn't aimed at us; we were just caught in the crossfire."
Feng Xiao, whose subconscious had been ready to issue a counterattack order, stopped short at Wang Hao's urgent warning.
Looking around, he realized that it wasn't just that one beam; other beams and energy cannons were streaking past them from all directions.
Countless asteroids and massive meteorites were being brutally pulverized.
"Where is this attack coming from?"
Feng Xiao looked at Wang Hao.
"According to the Matrix's calculations and energy tracking, it's originating from these coordinates..."
Glancing at the coordinates, the Star Origin immediately changed course.
About five minutes later, the moment the Star Origin rounded a massive red star, everyone's eyes widened in shock.
Hundreds of bizarre, massive starships were locked in a chaotic melee. Exaggerated energy fluctuations rippled outward, with at least a thousand main cannon beams and energy blasts weaving through the void, grinding down each other's shields.
Beyond that, tens of thousands of cobbled-together conventional warships were firing at one another with reckless abandon.
Terrifying energy explosions and shockwaves blanketed more than half of the star system!
Every so often, dozens of Star Weapon attacks spanning thousands of kilometers would obliterate swaths of warships, while dense swarms of starfighters and individual mechs clashed like clouds of insects.
Attacks and shipwrecks were everywhere, and even the corpses of crew members and pilots drifted through space, their faces twisted and pale.
The surfaces of dozens of planets had been ravaged beyond recognition by the extreme frequency of the collateral damage, their crusts covered in massive impact craters and rift valleys.
On some of the smaller, less stable planets, the tectonic plates had already shattered.
"Is this what interstellar war is like?!"
Wang Hao's eyes widened, his mind flashing back to the wars between nations on Earth Star, and he couldn't help but feel how "weak" those had been.
"Even a civilization-level war between Tier 3 civilizations wouldn't be this exaggerated," Ilde remarked with a sigh.
Countless beams, energy cannons, and dense swarms of missiles danced across the void, the violent energy shockwaves and explosions illuminating the surrounding space.
If it weren't for the fact that sound requires high energy fluctuations to propagate in space, the roar of the explosions and the barrage of energy cannons would have surely echoed throughout the entire system.
Feng Xiao calmly steered the Star Origin closer to the star, hiding it within the intense glare, then activated the panoramic mode and gestured for the two to stay calm before pulling out a cigar.
He also took the opportunity to turn on the built-in recording function.
Then, leaning back in his chair, he said, "In reality, both sides have the power to wipe out a Tier 3 civilization, but to the Alliance, this is just two groups of space pirates killing each other. Sit down and watch slowly. Never seen such a grand spectacle before? Neither have I."
Though brutal, they were still just pirates. In this day and age, human life was the most valuable thing, yet also the cheapest—especially for this lot.
Wang Hao and Ilde nodded in agreement, the former asking, "How many people are in this battlefield?"
"Not sure, but definitely over ten million."
"Pirates can gather that many people?"
Wang Hao was stunned.
Feng Xiao laughed. "In the Great Interstellar Society, leaving aside the population count, the Blood Cloud Sector has existed for over two hundred thousand years. How many life-bearing and resource-rich planets do you think exist in a sector the size of half a galaxy with hundreds of thousands of star systems? And how long do you think they've been breeding?"
Wang Hao felt his values as a human being being challenged.
"Then the children born here..."
"They might be normal for the first few months, but do you think their values would remain normal if they lived past five? No matter how they start, they grow up to be pirates; their values are already twisted. This is the Blood Cloud Sector!" Feng Xiao said calmly.
Wang Hao still couldn't accept it. "Why doesn't the Alliance destroy a place like this?"
Ilde spoke up then. "The first wave of people to enter the Blood Cloud Sector were traitors who betrayed humanity during the Nirvana War, the most critical event twenty thousand years ago. The second and subsequent waves were demons who had bloodied countless planets and nations. By the time humanity achieved Nirvana and solidified its position, they had already taken root. The new generation, indoctrinated with anti-human ideology, now occupies the entire sector. While we could destroy it directly, we needed time to recover after the war. However, someone proposed that since everyone in this sector carries the blood of betrayal, we might as well blockade the system to serve as a training ground and a harvest field for Star Points, forcing them to endure eternal war."
"The four known Blood Guard Starports and war fortresses are just the surface blockade. In reality, there are numerous Subspace bases and shallow-dimension flow hubs covering the Blood Cloud Sector from a four-dimensional perspective. Any unit entering or leaving the sector's borders or specific zones is detected instantly."
Feng Xiao summarized, "It sounds like a criminal's paradise, but in reality, it's just a whetstone. Small groups of pirates can leave without interference, but if the major pirate fleets and the core members of those traitorous criminal factions dare to take a single step out..."
...a terrifying strike capable of destroying a star would descend in an instant..."
Wang Hao was stunned for a moment, then nodded.
Betrayal was a grave sin anywhere.
Especially when it meant betraying the entire human race.
"Still..."
Rumble!
Violent energy fluctuations flashed and vanished in an instant; energy waves and explosions completely engulfed the Star Origin, and the shield values began to jump frantically!
[Shield drop: 8k] [Shield drop: 7k] [Shield drop: 9k]
When the aftermath of the attack finally dissipated, the energy value of the Eternal Sun Wall had evaporated by over twenty-four thousand!
This was even after a portion of the attack had been converted into shield energy and absorbed, with the legendary talent offsetting 15% of the damage.
Had they taken the full brunt of the attack, it was highly likely the shields would have been on the verge of shattering!
"A single strike! Not concentrated fire!"
Ilde's expression shifted slightly. Nearly thirty thousand damage from a single strike?
The core main cannon of a Star-Land Class starship!
Star-Land starships could be equipped with multiple main-cannon-type Star Weapons, but there was always one that was prioritized for development.
To deal such damage in a single shot, it was highly probable that it was the core main cannon!
"Damn it! We've been spotted!"
Feng Xiao's face changed drastically, for his Divine Sense ability was screaming in alarm; it felt as if a lethal threat was looming over him!
The Star Origin's propulsion systems accelerated to maximum output, shooting out toward the rear of the star, yet that sense of threat only grew more intense.
At the moment of extreme danger, the Star Origin completed its pre-heating sequence and jumped directly into Subspace.
A light sphere of terrifying energy levels swept past the spot where the Star Origin had vanished, slamming into the massive star and sending "sparks" flying for ten thousand miles!
In the center of the battlefield, inside one of several Star-Land Class starships currently engaged in combat, a feminine-looking man wearing a red trench coat frowned slightly.
"To think they dodged it. These starships from the outside world have such good luck. It had better not happen again."
The feminine man let out a cold snort.
"Sissy, you still hate those outsiders so much, even willing to use your core main cannon like that. So, without your core main cannon now, how do you intend to win this war?"
Suddenly, a voice signal came from the opposing starship, the flat tone filled with mockery.
"Heh."
In an instant, dazzling light gathered once more!
"Oh?"
