Douluo Continent, Suo Tuo City.
A tall figure walked out of Shrek Academy, which had a battered signboard hanging over it. The newcomer had long golden hair, a broad, muscular build, and a pair of mismatched eyes. It was Dai Mubai.
Dai Mubai narrowed his eyes and looked at the commotion across the street.
"Fatty."
Dai Mubai called out without even turning his head.
"Coming, coming!"
A round figure came tumbling and scrambling out of the academy.
The newcomer was none other than Ma Hongjun. He wore a set of rumpled clothes, his hair was as messy as a chicken coop, and the corners of his mouth were still smeared with oil he had not wiped clean. Clearly, he had just finished breakfast.
"Boss Dai, what's up this early in the morning?"
Ma Hongjun wiped his mouth as he sidled over.
Dai Mubai lifted his chin, motioning for him to look across the street.
On the open ground opposite them, a group of craftsmen were busy at work. Some were hammering nails, others were painting, and they were making quite a racket.
"What are they making such a fuss over across the street this early in the morning?"
Dai Mubai frowned.
Ma Hongjun narrowed his little eyes and watched for a while, then shook his head.
"No idea. They were already working on it yesterday. When I came back last night, they were still at it."
"Do you know what they're building?"
"Not sure."
Ma Hongjun scratched his red hair, then suddenly revealed a lecherous grin.
"But... I'm hoping it's a new pleasure house."
Dai Mubai glanced at him, the corner of his mouth twitching.
"Is there anything in your head besides pleasure houses?"
"Heh heh, you can't blame me for that. Boss Dai, you know what my martial soul is like..."
Ma Hongjun rubbed his hands together, the fat on his face bunching up as he smiled in a way that could only be called fawning.
"Oh right, Boss Dai, didn't you make plans with a pair of twins tonight? Well... could you help me out too? I don't have much money left on me. You know, my martial soul..."
"Get lost."
Dai Mubai cursed with a laugh.
"You still haven't paid me back for the money I covered last time, and now you're here again?"
"That was a special situation!"
Ma Hongjun looked wronged.
"Boss Dai, just be kind this once. Next time, next time I'll definitely pay you back!"
"We'll talk next time."
Dai Mubai patted his shoulder and strode toward the other side of the street.
"Come on. Let's go see what the hell they're up to."
The two crossed the street and approached the storefront that was under construction.
The craftsmen were basically done and were packing up their tools. A foreman saw the two of them coming over but paid them no mind, hoisted a ladder onto his shoulder, and left.
Only after they had gone far away did Dai Mubai get a clear look at the sign covered in red cloth. The wind had blown one corner of the cloth open, revealing a few strokes of the characters beneath.
Dai Mubai said nothing. He walked forward and reached out, tearing off the red cloth.
Five large characters were carved into the wooden sign—"Shrek Academy."
The lettering was even rather neat, more than a grade above his own academy's rotten wooden sign.
Ma Hongjun's eyes nearly popped out.
"What the fuck?"
"Boss Dai, this... this is someone picking a fight, right? They actually dare to open a Shrek Academy right across from our Shrek Academy?"
Dai Mubai stared at the sign for a few seconds, and the corner of his mouth slowly curved into a dangerous arc.
"Interesting."
"Tomorrow is the enrollment day, and they put up their sign across from us today... They're clearly trying to steal our business."
"Then what are we waiting for?"
Ma Hongjun rolled up his sleeves, revealing two pale, pudgy arms.
"Come on! Let's go pick a fight! I want to see which blind bastard dares to stir up trouble on our turf! After all, only mediocre people don't dare cause trouble!"
He paused, then lowered his voice again, revealing that lecherous smile.
"Heh, Boss Dai, while we're at it, let's see if we can shake them down for some money. Then we can go visit the brothels tonight."
Dai Mubai glanced at him and laughed too.
"Exactly what I had in mind."
The two of them strode toward the newly erected storefront.
They had just reached the entrance when a figure walked out from inside.
It was a young girl with delicate, lovely features. A few strands of white were mixed into her long red hair, giving off a soft sheen beneath the morning light.
Her figure was graceful and slender. What she wore seemed to be some academy uniform, yet even that was still unable to hide her curves.
The girl was Wu Siduo, who had come from another point in time.
Dai Mubai's steps halted. Ma Hongjun's mouth fell straight open into an "O."
"Good heavens..."
"Boss Dai, this... this is even hotter than those twins..."
Dai Mubai did not answer, but his gaze had already changed. His strange, heterochromatic eyes narrowed slightly, and the corner of his mouth curved with confidence.
He stepped forward and looked down at that Wu Siduo from above.
"Little sister, are you a... student here? Want to go out and have some fun with me?"
Wu Siduo lifted her eyes and glanced at him. Her gaze looked extremely cold.
"Get lost."
Hearing Wu Siduo say that, Ma Hongjun not only did not get angry, he grew even more excited.
He chuckled, rubbing his hands as he leaned closer.
"Oh, you've got quite the temper? Personality. I like it!"
Wu Siduo's brows furrowed even tighter, the disgust in her eyes undisguised.
Dai Mubai, on the other hand, remained composed. He crossed his arms and jerked his chin toward the sign above.
"You're a student of this Shrek Academy, right?"
Dai Mubai nodded, then stuck out his thumb and pointed behind him, in the direction of the gate to the Shrek Academy he belonged to.
"What a coincidence."
He grinned, showing a mouthful of white teeth.
"I'm from Shrek Academy too. Only mine is the genuine one."
Dai Mubai took a step forward, his gaze falling on Wu Siduo.
"Opening a knockoff across from the real Shrek Academy and even hanging up the same name... Little sister, don't you owe me a reasonable explanation?"
His voice was not loud, but it was thick with threat.
Ma Hongjun chimed in from the side, his laugh utterly sleazy.
"Yeah, explain it to us. If you can't explain it clearly... drinking with us works too. It's almost mealtime anyway, hahaha..."
"Explain?"
Wu Siduo's voice was still extremely cold.
"You two came here looking for trouble?"
Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun exchanged a glance, then laughed at the same time.
"More or less."
Dai Mubai shrugged, unable to suppress the smile on his face. In his eyes, a girl this age was someone he could handle however he liked.
After all, he was a three-ring Soul Elder, a genius capable of entering Shrek Academy.
"Heh, that's right. We came here looking for trouble!"
On the other side, Ma Hongjun's words were far more direct by comparison.
"You want to fight, right? If you lose, tell us your name!"
After Wu Siduo heard Ma Hongjun's words, the disgust in her eyes grew even stronger.
"Cut the crap."
Dai Mubai twisted his neck, then looked toward Ma Hongjun beside him.
"Interesting. Fatty, you first, or me?"
"You go first, Boss Dai."
Ma Hongjun cheerfully stepped back two paces.
"I'll hold the line for you."
Dai Mubai rolled his shoulders. His long golden hair stirred despite the lack of wind, and a domineering aura surged out from within him.
"Little sister, don't say I didn't warn you."
He took a step forward, and three soul rings rose from beneath his feet—two yellow and one purple.
"I'm a rank thirty-seven Soul Elder!"
