Background & History

Sylphy grew up in Buena Village as Rolz's daughter. Her green hair, attributed to demon blood, made her a target for other village children; she was shy, isolated, and frequently bullied. Rudeus and Hilde intervened when they found her being harassed, after which Rudeus called her his friend and offered to teach her magic 10.

Although Sylphy was initially assumed to be a boy, the misunderstanding was cleared up after Rudeus, Hilde, and Sylphy were caught in a rainstorm and bathed together. Sylphy was deeply concerned only that Rudeus would not hate her after learning she was a girl 12.

She proved an unusually gifted student. Sylphy grasped difficult magical concepts quickly, studied earnestly, and progressed to intermediate magic in roughly six months. She also learned chantless healing magic, an ability Rudeus himself could not perform 11 13. When Rudeus prepared to leave for further training, Sylphy was devastated by the prospect of being separated from him 18.

After learning of Rudeus's engagement to Eris Boreas Greyrat, Sylphy accepted that she would likely never be his primary wife. Rather than abandon her feelings, she resolved to become someone capable of supporting him. She studied magic, domestic skills, sewing, cooking, court etiquette, dancing, and combat preparation in an effort to become worthy of him 75 138.

During the Great Teleportation Incident, Sylphy was transported from Buena Village to Ars City and fell from the sky. She used wind magic in a desperate attempt to slow her fall, then awoke to find that Princess Ariel had saved her. With no safe way to return home and wishing to repay Ariel, Sylphy remained in the royal capital as Ariel's guardian mage while continuing her training. Her parents died in the incident 181 182.

Her chantless magic drew notice throughout the Asura Kingdom. While seeking news of Hilde, she repeatedly visited the Water God Style dojo, where she met Isolte and learned that they shared the same absent friend 181. To protect Ariel's political position, Sylphy concealed her identity and operated as Fitz 182.

At Ranoa Magic University, Sylphy encountered Rudeus and Hilde again. Rudeus did not recognize her through the Fitz disguise, while Hilde was initially unable to identify her with certainty. Fearful that Rudeus had forgotten her, Sylphy hesitated to reveal herself despite wanting to resume her relationship with him 217 219 377. She later spent a night with Rudeus as Fitz, but his misunderstanding of her feelings prevented an honest reunion 231.

Sylphy eventually confided in Hilde that she was pregnant with Rudeus's child, but remained afraid that telling him would disrupt his life and marriage to Roxy 293 330. Even later, when Rudeus asked Fitz to search for Sylphiette, he still did not realize that his childhood friend stood before him 351.

Sylphy gave birth to a daughter, Lucy, whom the former adventurer Suzanne helps care for near Ranoa Magic University. When Hilde visited, Sylphy finally revealed that Fitz was Sylphiette and explained that Lucy was Rudeus's daughter. Although Sylphy intended to introduce Lucy to Rudeus after Roxy's child was born, she remained reluctant to intrude on his family life 377 378.

When Ariel's faction prepared to return to the Asura Kingdom, Sylphy entrusted Lucy to Rudeus's care and chose to accompany Ariel and Dilik despite the danger. She requested that even her close allies call her Fitz, declaring that “Sylphiette” was dead 395 397. Rudeus subsequently learned Fitz's identity and Lucy's parentage; after confronting Sylphy over her secrecy, the two reconciled and agreed to begin again 397 403 404.

Sylphy continued to protect Ariel during the faction's dangerous journey. She fought Vita, the North King assassin responsible for Luke's death, with repeated wind attacks until Eris intervened and Rudeus killed Vita 398 402. In the Asura Kingdom, she supported Ariel's efforts to recruit nobles and strengthen the Second Princess faction against Darius and the opposing royal faction. When Ariel doubted her ability to take the throne, Sylphy noticed her distress and offered support 433 434.

During preparations in Ars City, Sylphy reunited with Paul Greyrat. Still disguised as Fitz, she had to be introduced to him by Rudeus; Paul was surprised by how much she had changed, and Sylphy addressed him as “Father” 441.

At a banquet intended to resolve the succession struggle, Darius ordered an attack on Ariel and Paul. When Leda struck at Ariel, Sylphy threw herself in front of the princess and suffered a severe leg injury. Despite Darius's escape, Ariel gained the backing of the great ducal families and effectively secured her claim to the throne 458 459.

After the political victory, Sylphy continued spending time with Ariel, although Dilik declined her offer to help with the new political workload. She learned that Ariel was pregnant and, believing Hilde might have feelings for the princess, told both Rudeus and Hilde. Hilde's bewildered response challenged Sylphy's assumption about their relationship 477.

Appearance

As a child, Sylphy had green hair, short haircuts, and typically wore pants, leading others to mistake her for a boy. Her green hair was the visible trait that led to her discrimination in Buena Village 10 12.

Following the Great Teleportation Incident, mana depletion caused Sylphy's hair to turn white. As Fitz, she conceals her identity through her cropped white hair, cloak, sunglasses, and altered figure 217 219 378.

Personality

Sylphy began as timid and dependent on Rudeus's protection, but her fear of being left behind became a driving force for self-improvement. She trained persistently after Rudeus left, seeking practical skills as well as magical strength rather than remaining only a village girl waiting for him 74 138.

She is loyal and conscientious. After Ariel saved her life, Sylphy chose to remain at the princess's side and serve as a guardian mage, even while privately hoping to reunite with Rudeus and Hilde 181 182. She is reluctant to use Rudeus or Hilde for Ariel's political ambitions, valuing her personal bond with them over political utility 219.

Despite her growth, Sylphy struggles with insecurity. She fears that Rudeus has forgotten her, doubts whether she can compete with the women around him, and remains intimidated by Hilde's stern treatment of her 218 223.

Sylphy's hesitance to burden Rudeus led her to conceal both her identity and Lucy's existence for years. However, she is capable of making difficult choices when Ariel is threatened: she voluntarily accepted the danger of the Asura mission and persisted in protecting Ariel despite knowing the risks 378 397 402. At the banquet, that loyalty led her to put herself in Leda's path and suffer a severe leg injury for Ariel's sake 458.
