A Crying Hagrid, Norbert
Only Lucien and Hagrid remained in the cabin.
Setting down his empty teacup, Lucien considered his words for a moment, but ultimately chose to get straight to the point:
"Hagrid, I have a favor to ask of you."
"Oh, okay, what's up?"
Hagrid, with his back to Lucien, tried to turn the dragon egg over so that it would be more comfortable lying in the fire.
Faced with Hagrid's straightforwardness, Lucien paused for a moment, but continued:
"If possible, could you let me raise this dragon egg?"
This time Hagrid did not answer immediately; the only sounds in the room were the crackling of burning firewood and the boiling of the kettle.
Several minutes later, Hagrid finally mumbled something:
"Lucien, do you really need it?"
"Yes."
Another silence fell, Hagrid's deep, rugged voice became somewhat hoarse:
"Then, you'll take good care of it, right?"
But before Lucien could answer, Hagrid continued muttering:
"I know you're a kind and good person, Lucien, and very smart. You know more than I do, so you can definitely take better care of things, but..."
"Waaah, but my dream is to raise a Fire Dragon, and finally someone gave me a Fire Dragon egg..."
"Waaaaah, that guy was such a nice person. Even though he covered his face and wouldn't let me see, he treated me to a lot of drinks and chatted with me, from Fire Dragon to Three-Headed Dog. Oh, he must be someone who loves Magical Creatures too..."
The more Hagrid spoke, the more confused Lucien became.
Wait, why is Hagrid crying?
And wasn't the person who delivered the dragon egg Quirrell? Isn't this obviously an attempt to get information out of him?
Lucien was unusually flustered and didn't know how to comfort Hagrid for a moment.
"Lucien, you must treat it well."
"I had already decided to Norbert the unborn little one Norber."
"Actually, Harry and Hermione are right, I know that. Dragons grow very quickly and are hard to hide from, but you have that magical gourd container..."
"Waaah, you must bring Norbert to visit me more often in the future..."
As he spoke, Hagrid pulled out a dirty, rough handkerchief, wiped away his tears, and then blew his nose hard.
Then, putting on thick baking gloves, Hagrid prepared to take the dragon egg out of the fireplace and hand it to Lucien, while turning his head away as if he couldn't bear to look at the dragon egg any longer.
"Um, Hagrid, I'm still a first-year student. I'll be staying at Hogwarts for several more years."
"That makes it sound like I'm about to run away with Norbert. You can see it all the time."
As he spoke, Lucien had already stopped Hagrid's actions.
"Let's leave the dragon eggs here. Once they start hatching, we can't stop."
Hagrid immediately withdrew his hands, awkwardly patting his unkempt beard.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I really didn't know."
"Sigh, Lucien, you really do know more. It's more suitable for you to take care of Norbert..."
As Hagrid spoke, he became dejected again, Lucien could only offer words of comfort:
"I only learned it from a friend. If you want to learn, I'll definitely tell you everything."
"In that case, when Norbert has children in the future, or other dragon eggs and baby dragons, I would like to ask you to help raise and care for them, is that alright?"
Upon hearing this, Hagrid's eyes lit up.
"Really? Can I take care of one more?"
Lucien smiled brightly:
"Of course, if you're willing."
Hagrid nodded repeatedly.
"Of course I'd love to! My dream is to raise a Fire Dragon, and if I could raise two..."
Seeing Hagrid's relaxed and carefree expression, Lucien secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
I need to raise a Fire Dragon to repay the annual loan for the Magic Weaving.
They also need to stay with them for at least six months, and the extra time must be used to find other Fire Dragon.
Yes, Norbert is a Norwegian Ridgeback, meaning he wants to conquer the Norwegian Ridgeback species and make it the king of the group.
In the future, the probability of encountering dragon eggs or baby dragons will be very high, and Hagrid's wish will be granted.
Hagrid is a good man, someone who would go to great lengths for his friends, so he naturally has to keep the promises he makes.
One morning.
"Click--"
A soft cracking sound echoed inside the cabin.
Lucien and Hagrid, who were squatting to the side, stared intently at the black dragon egg in the fireplace.
The original orange-yellow firewood has been completely replaced by a reddish-gold color.
Hagrid, who was used to these "magical flames," suddenly slapped his forehead, hurriedly stood up, walked to the table, took out a piece of paper and began to write, while whistling to summon the owl outside.
"I need to tell Harry and the others, Norbert is about to hatch!"
After Hagrid finished explaining, he had the owl deliver the letter, then squatted down next to Lucien, nervously watching the dragon egg in the crimson flames.
There's already a tiny crack on it.
I thought Norbert would be born soon, but apart from this crack, there was no further news.
Hagrid waited and waited, growing increasingly anxious.
"Lucien, is this normal? It's been over an hour!"
"Don't worry, it takes a long time for Fire Dragon to hatch. For a species like the Norwegian Ridgeback, it takes about four to eight hours from the appearance of the first crack to its complete birth."
Lucien waved his hand gently, indicating that Hagrid didn't need to be nervous.
On one hand, this knowledge came from Newt; on the other hand, Lucien was also using his Eye of Magic Sight to observe the situation inside the eggshell.
The Magic Circuit within the young dragon's body were normal, and it was growing very robustly.
It seems that the Purifying Fire of the mythical beast Qilin has had a good effect; at least Norbert is not at a disadvantage in terms of innate ability.
It just so happens that Ravenclaw didn't have classes this morning, so Lucien stayed by the dragon egg the whole time.
"Click-click--"
A more noticeable noise came from inside the eggshell.
At that moment, a knock sounded on the door.
Harry and his two companions rushed over together.
Lucien noticed that their hands and robes were covered in mud; it seemed they had just had Herbology.
Hagrid, along with four young wizards, stood around the dragon egg.
Suddenly, a piercing scraping sound rang out.
The eggshell cracked.
A little Fire Dragon struggled to its feet and crawled out of its shell.
Its jet-black scales were faintly adorned with streaks of gold.
Compared to its body, the wings were very large and covered with short, sharp spikes.
Hagrid reached out and touched the little Fire Dragon's head, but his finger was bitten.
Hagrid stood up abruptly, his face pale.
Harry thought he was in pain and was about to ask him what was wrong when he heard Hagrid say in a trembling voice:
Someone's spying outside!
