Luna: Do You Know the Crumple-Horned Snorkack?
Lucien, who had spent the entire day in the library, came out just as it was closing time.
He walked slowly up the spiral staircase toward the Ravenclaw Tower, his steps unhurried, his mind still on a passage about curse media that he had just read in a book.
After turning the last step of the stairs, the Bronze Door Knocker Ravenclaw Common Room came into view.
A figure with dark golden-brown hair stood motionless in front of the door.
Lucien stepped forward and saw—it was indeed Luna.
She tilted her head back, staring intently at the eagle-shaped door knocker, her silver eyes unblinking, her lips moving slightly as if silently repeating something.
He seemed lost in thought, not even noticing Lucien approaching.
Is he stumped by the puzzle?
There are no passwords in the Ravenclaw common room, but you have to answer a puzzle.
For younger wizards, the puzzles in the common room can sometimes be quite difficult, and without help, they might be forced to spend the night outside.
"What's the problem today?" Lucien walked up to her and asked casually.
Luna turned her head, saw it was him, and a faint smile appeared on her face, as if she had breathed a sigh of relief.
"You've come." Luna repeated the riddle of the door ring, "I grow in darkness, yet die in light. I devour thoughts, yet am imprisoned by words. What am I?"
Lucien nodded slightly and began to think.
Just then, Luna suddenly spoke, her voice light and airy, as if talking to herself. "Lucien, do you know about the Crumple-Horned Snorkack?"
His nascent thoughts were interrupted, Lucien turned to look at the little witch. Her silver eyes appeared exceptionally clear in the torchlight, reflecting the flickering flames.
Crumple-Horned Snorkack?
He quickly searched his memory for all the books he had read about Magical Creatures — Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Guide to Magical Creatures, The Unknown Creatures—but couldn't find the term.
"Never heard of it," Lucien replied truthfully.
Luna's expression remained unchanged, as if she had expected this answer.
She tilted her head and explained calmly, "They live in the northern forests, and their horns are curved, like crescent moons. When they sleep, they make a sound like snoring, so they're called the Crumple-Horned Snorkack." She paused, "My dad and I have both seen them, but many people say they don't exist."
Lucien remained silent for a moment.
Luna and her father, Xenophilius Lovegood, firmly believe in the existence of many creatures that are not acknowledged by the mainstream wizarding world.
The "strange tales" published in "The Quibbler," edited by Luna's father, were considered by most wizards to be nothing more than sensational fabrications.
But Lucien felt that the magical world was too vast, and many Magical Creatures were indeed not included, or only had scattered, unofficial records.
"I'm not sure if they exist," Lucien said cautiously. "At least I haven't seen any records of them. Well, maybe they live in undisturbed places."
Luna tilted her head, her silver eyes fixed on him for two seconds, before replying in a ethereal voice:
"Mr. Scamander. Newt Scamander has written many books about Magical Creatures, and he has traveled all over the world; perhaps he knows about the Crumple-Horned Snorkack."
She looked at Lucien, a hint of expectation in her silver eyes—an expectation that wasn't intense, but very real.
Could you ask him for me?
Lucien was taken aback; he hadn't expected Luna to make this request so suddenly.
