The couple, Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao, glanced at Yu Yuanzhen in surprise. Had he called them here today just to make Yu Xiaogang apologize for what happened last time?
To be honest, Yu Yuanzhen's actions stirred a trace of admiration in both of them.
Yu Xiaogang simply stood there, his face pale and his entire body trembling uncontrollably. He couldn't understand why his father would say such things about him in front of outsiders.
Did he not care about his dignity?
Yu Xiaogan spoke up from the side. "Little brother, although Dad's words are a little harsh, they're the truth. With half a level of innate Soul Power, becoming a Battle Spirit Master is simply too difficult. You should choose the theoretical path, like Yu Changge."
"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!"
Yu Xiaogang had already been in a foul mood after being criticized by his own father. Now even his older brother was lecturing him. What right did he have?
"Yu Xiaogan!"
"Don't talk when you don't know the pain!"
"Do you know how jealous I am of your talent? If I had talent like yours—even a little less would be fine, as long as I had seven levels of innate Soul Power—I wouldn't be in this state now!"
"And you don't need to put on that fake concern here. I don't need it!!!"
Yu Xiaogan and Yu Xiaogang were both sons of Yu Yuanzhen. The former possessed eight levels of innate Soul Power and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul, while the latter possessed half a level of innate Soul Power and the Piglet Martial Soul. (Yu Xiaogan's talent was changed from level nine to level eight.)
Yu Xiaogan was only two years older than him, yet he was already a Soul Grandmaster, while Yu Xiaogang's Soul Power was still below level five.
The former, with the clan's cultivation, had a chance of becoming a Titled Douluo and the next Clan Head.
The latter, even with the clan's cultivation, would struggle to become a Soul Grandmaster.
The difference...
If they were outside and someone said Yu Xiaogang was Yu Xiaogan's biological younger brother, probably no one would believe it.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a slap landed directly on Yu Xiaogang's face. The tremendous force sent him flying, and he crashed heavily onto the ground. His cheek swelled instantly, and a trace of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Yu Yuanzhen's sudden action left everyone present stunned.
Yu Xiaolong glanced at Yu Yuanzhen and secretly sighed.
He understood why his son had acted that way. If Yu Xiaogang were his son, he reckoned he would lose several years of his life.
He was already old, after all. Losing several more years would probably send him straight into the grave.
Yu Xiaogang was the typical sort who couldn't be awakened by reason or scolding. Now even his older brother's well-meaning reminder had been treated like the liver of a donkey. That left only one final method.
Beat some sense into him!
But in Yu Xiaolong's eyes, even that probably wouldn't work.
They had already reached the point of using force. In the end, this would hurt the bond between father and son.
Yu Xiaogang's mind was blank. His head buzzed, and that slap had been so forceful that it felt as though his brain would be shaken out of his skull.
He covered his swollen cheek with one hand and stared blankly at Yu Yuanzhen. Several seconds later, the blurred, doubled figure before his eyes finally focused into a single person.
Yu Yuanzhen spoke coldly. "Xiaogang, you've disappointed me too much. Having poor talent isn't a problem. With the clan's resources, you may not become a strong person in the future, but you'll have more than enough strength to protect yourself."
"But the one thing you absolutely should never have done was become jealous, much less speak to your own brother like that! This is a matter of character!"
"I, Yu Yuanzhen, have conducted myself uprightly my entire life. I will never allow any of my descendants to harbor such thoughts!"
"Otherwise... the entire clan will fall into chaos!"
"Now! Immediately! Apologize to Xiaogan!"
A trace of Soul Power was even mixed into Yu Yuanzhen's voice, shaking Yu Xiaogang so badly that he couldn't muster the slightest resistance.
Yu Xiaogang had once been so arrogant that he dared to criticize Yu Changge, and whenever others mocked him, he would argue back.
The confidence behind all of that had come from his father, Yu Yuanzhen.
But now that Yu Yuanzhen had criticized him so severely, how could he still have the courage to oppose him?
Yu Xiaogang staggered to his feet and walked before Yu Xiaogan. Lowering his head, he said, "I-I'm sorry, Big Brother. I... I got carried away just now and said things I shouldn't have. I hope... you won't take them to heart."
As Yu Xiaogang spoke, all the pride in his body vanished, replaced by an aura of dejection.
It was as though Yu Yuanzhen had forced him to do this, leaving him no choice but to submit under overwhelming pressure.
Yu Xiaogan looked at Yu Xiaogang with a complicated expression. He didn't know how his younger brother had become like this.
Perhaps he really had never suffered hardship himself and couldn't truly understand the pain Yu Xiaogang carried.
But Yu Xiaogang's words had indeed stabbed a knife into his heart.
Yu Xiaogan opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing. Only a soft sigh escaped him.
Yu Yuanzhen watched this with sorrow in his heart. He had truly done everything he could, yet he still couldn't turn things around. The corners of his eyes grew slightly moist.
His emotions were complicated, impossible to express in words. In the end, he was thoroughly disappointed in his youngest son.
"And there's more!" Yu Yuanzhen spoke again, his voice carrying a hint of hoarseness this time.
Yu Xiaogang's body stiffened. He clenched his lips, and his body trembled slightly. Apologizing to Yu Xiaogan was acceptable. He was his own brother, and Yu Xiaogang had indeed gone too far just now. Apologizing wasn't shameful.
But making him apologize to Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao...
He had always looked down on Yu Changge. Now he was supposed to apologize to Yu Changge's parents?
It wasn't exactly that he looked down on him. Rather, Yu Changge's existence allowed him to constantly comfort himself. He compared himself to Yu Changge in his heart, telling himself that as long as his Soul Power Level was higher than the other's, he had won.
Yu Changge was an imaginary enemy in his heart.
Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao also looked somewhat embarrassed, feeling as though they had been placed in an awkward position.
Did they want Yu Xiaogang to apologize to them for their son?
Naturally, there was no need to ask. Of course they did.
But what they wanted even more was a sincere apology, not one like this.
Yu Xiaogang glanced at Yu Xiaolong, originally intending to seek his grandfather's help. But when he saw him watching with his eyes closed, he knew there was no hope.
Under Yu Yuanzhen's pressure, Yu Xiaogang finally backed down. He walked before Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao and said, "I'm sorry..."
Those three words came out with great difficulty, and he was extremely unwilling to say them.
Yu Yuanzhen exhaled. "Starting tomorrow, you'll go to the school established by the clan to study every morning. If you continue wasting away like this, I'll break your legs myself!"
"What are you waiting for? Get out of here!"
Upon hearing this, Yu Xiaogang stared at his father in shock. He opened and closed his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately swallowed the words.
