Awakening and Inheritance

Martial Souls are awakened during ceremonies held for children who have reached six years of age. The awakening array reveals both the Martial Soul and the child’s Innate Soul Power. 1

A Martial Soul is tied to bloodline inheritance. Children usually inherit a parent’s Martial Soul or attributes, but ancestral traits can reappear instead, producing unexpected forms or elemental mutations. 12

• A visibly absent manifestation does not necessarily mean awakening failed; Body Martial Souls may manifest through the wielder’s own body and require a Soul Power test to identify. 150 151
• Low Innate Soul Power can cause unusual Martial Souls to be overlooked despite their potential. 116
• A Martial Soul’s attributes are not always apparent before it gains Soul Rings. Xiao Huang initially appeared as a purple-skinned piglet with no evident offensive capability despite its hidden draconic bloodline. 12

A soul master can possess two Martial Souls. Yu Changge’s externally manifested Radiant Sacred Dragon and full-body Body Martial Soul allow him to use abilities associated with each; the Body Martial Soul remained hidden at his childhood awakening and was publicly revealed later. 1 292 316

External Beast Martial Souls

External Beast Martial Souls cannot use Martial Soul Possession, leaving their users without the usual close-combat increase to strength and defense. Their users may therefore rely on physical conditioning, weapons, or direct coordination with the manifested Martial Soul. 3 6

• They can act independently in battle and respond to their master without spoken commands. 65
• They may help bear the burden of Soul Ring absorption when their master reaches their limit. 44 65
• Damage transferred through an External Beast Martial Soul is still felt when the Martial Soul is withdrawn, though a sturdier Martial Soul may reduce the harm borne by its master. 125
• Improper feeding and incompatible Soul Rings can cause an External Beast Martial Soul to develop in a harmful direction. 12 125
• An exceptional intervention can change this manifestation: a Sea God trial reward transformed Yu Xiaogang’s externally manifested Luo Sanpao into a conventional Martial Soul phantom capable of possession. The change did not replace his existing Soul Skills. 280 281

Attributes and Soul Ring Compatibility

A Martial Soul’s elemental attributes determine which Soul Beasts and Soul Rings are most compatible with it. Obvious attributes, such as the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon’s lightning, can be identified immediately; hidden attributes require testing. 12 110

Choosing compatible Soul Rings is essential. Compatible rings can strengthen a Martial Soul’s bloodline and support evolution, while mismatched rings may prevent it from developing properly. 18 125 163

Martial Soul Evolution

Martial Souls can evolve through compatible Soul Rings, accumulated attribute strengthening, or exceptional external assistance. 61 115 161

Xiao Huang’s recorded evolution demonstrates this process: initially dismissed as a Piglet Martial Soul, it developed into the Golden Sacred Dragon and was later purified into the Radiant Sacred Dragon through Angel Divine Power. 1 114 115

Body Martial Souls

Body Martial Souls are defined as Martial Souls in which part or all of the soul master’s own body functions as the Martial Soul and can independently bear Soul Rings. 117 160

Yu Changge proposed the classification after distinguishing his own draconic body transformation from a true Body Martial Soul: his transformed Golden Dragon Claw could not receive Soul Rings separately, whereas a genuine Body Martial Soul’s arm, eye, or other body part could. 117

Body Martial Souls generally begin without a fixed elemental attribute; their attributes can be shaped by the Soul Rings their users absorb. 149

Spirit Hall Recognition

Spirit Hall confirmed that unusual body-based Martial Souls had existed historically under the label “aberrants.” 117 At Yu Changge’s request, it later announced the Body Martial Soul classification across the continent and invited holders to join Spirit Hall for resources and research support. 141 149

• The announcement identified Gui Mei as a Body Martial Soul user and named Yu Changge as the classification’s proposer. 149
• Spirit Hall gathered suspected Body Martial Soul users, initially bringing together twenty-two children between six and twelve years old. 156

Development Theory

Yu Changge’s Body Martial Soul research presents two main hypotheses:

1. The importance of the awakened body part affects the Martial Soul’s talent and potential. 160
2. Body Martial Souls may advance more easily than ordinary Martial Souls because Soul Rings directly enhance the body. 160

His training program also treats Body Martial Souls as especially responsive to two evolutionary routes:

• Compatible Soul Ring absorption — higher-quality and better-matched rings may raise Martial Soul quality. 161
• Near-Death Training — repeated survival under extreme conditions is intended to stimulate a Second Awakening, though the process carries genuine risk despite healer and elder supervision. 161 162

Second Awakening and Elemental Development

After copying Wang Ping’s full-body Body Martial Soul, Yu Changge fused it as his second Martial Soul. Its adaptability allowed it to develop beyond Wang Ping’s initial condition: Yu Changge’s innate Silver-grade Second Awakening could temporarily double his overall attributes. His family later explained that this Martial Soul had been present from birth but had not manifested at his awakening because his Innate Soul Power was only half a rank. 159 292

Yu Changge planned to develop its Soul Rings around the Five Viscera and their corresponding elements, with further rings devoted to spiritual power and strength. His Asura God trial subsequently required the Body Martial Soul to possess five Soul Rings of at least the Hundred-Thousand-Year Tier, one each for metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. 283 307

Yu Changge also regarded his body’s status as a Martial Soul as an opportunity to develop self-created combat techniques. In a later spar, he used a sustained mental-control attack from the Body Martial Soul against Tang Hao and Tang Xiao. 218 316
