Background / History

Yu Yuanzhen succeeded his aging father, Yu Xiaolong, as head of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Yu Xiaolong’s deteriorating health and limited remaining lifespan had led to the position being passed to Yu Yuanzhen earlier than expected. 28

As clan head, Yu Yuanzhen regarded the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s future strength as his foremost concern. He recognized Yu Tianqing’s discovery that refined Whale Glue could temper the body and improve bone strength, personally verifying the effect on a direct-line disciple. He considered the discovery a major contribution capable of raising the soul-ring limits of the clan’s younger generation. 8

He initially viewed Yu Changge as a low-talent child with a malignant mutation, but approved Yu Tianqing’s request to give Changge cultivation resources equal to Yu Xiaogang’s. He also considered granting additional resources to Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao because their contribution was worth far more than the requested treatment. 8

Following Yu Changge’s rise in Spirit Hall, Yu Yuanzhen recognized the importance of retaining and supporting him as a clansman. He sent Yu Luomian to invite Changge home, declared that the clan was proud of him, and later attempted to install him as Young Clan Head. 165 187

When Yu Tianqing returned to the clan as a Titled Douluo, Yu Yuanzhen accepted his defeat in their spar graciously despite Tianqing breaking his ninth soul skill. Personality

Yu Yuanzhen is pragmatic and strongly clan-oriented. He evaluates people by their conduct, cultivation, and potential rather than solely by bloodline; he refused to shield Yu Xiaogang from consequences simply because Xiaogang was his son, stating that he was clan leader before he was a father. 29

He can be harsh and quick-tempered when he believes clan interests or a child’s future have been jeopardized. After Yu Xiaogang acquired an unsuitable first soul skill, Yu Yuanzhen reprimanded and struck him for relying on shallow theory to judge a soul beast’s suitability. 53

Despite this severity, he shows responsibility for his mistakes. He later acknowledged that the clan had failed to develop a suitable elemental soul-ring path for Yu Xiaogang, apologized to Yu Changge for previously refusing to support his request for a soul bone, and sought to support Changge’s future sect. 186 187

Yu Yuanzhen can adapt to changing circumstances when the clan’s interests require it. He preferred sending Yu Changge to Spirit Hall to study herbal knowledge firsthand rather than accepting incomplete written material from outside forces. Though unwilling to provide a soul bone at the time, he offered political protection and used clan influence to seek herbal compendiums. 22

Discipline of Yu Xiaogang

Yu Yuanzhen punished Yu Xiaogang after his disrespectful treatment of Yu Changge and Elder Yu, acting to preserve harmony with Yu Tianqing’s family and the clan at large. 29

Star Dou Forest Expedition

At Rank 94, Yu Yuanzhen led his sons and Yu Luomian to Star Dou Forest. He subdued a seventy-thousand-year Thunder Scale Earth Dragon for Yu Luomian, enabling him to obtain the eighth soul skill Thunder Dragon Shock and rise to Rank 82. 154

During the same expedition, Yu Yuanzhen allowed Yu Xiaogang to absorb the ring of a Thunder Poison Phantom Scale Python after Xiaogang argued that its lightning and poison attributes were compatible with Luo Sanpao. The resulting second soul skill was Farts Like Mist, Hypnotic Slumber Luo Sanpao. 155

Reconciliation with Yu Changge

After learning of Yu Changge’s growth, Spirit Hall status, and victory over Tang Hao, Yu Yuanzhen sought to bring him back to the clan. 165 177

Yu Xiaogang’s House Arrest

When Yu Xiaogang caused further trouble during Yu Changge’s return, Yu Yuanzhen ordered that he be confined to his room after treatment, forbidding him from leaving without permission. 191

The confinement remained in effect for a period afterward. Once Xiaogang was released, Yu Yuanzhen responded to his request for practical training by arranging for Yu Xiaogan and Yu Luomian to spar with him. 194 215

Yu Tianqing’s Return and Clan Appointments

Yu Yuanzhen welcomed Yu Tianqing, Yu Shuyao, and Yu Ming back to the clan after their advancements. He sparred Yu Tianqing and used Thunder Dragon Head and True Dragon's Wrath, Roaring Through the Nine Heavens, but Tianqing’s hundred-thousand-year ninth soul ring enabled him to break Yu Yuanzhen’s ninth soul skill. Yu Yuanzhen organized a limited Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan party to join the journey toward Sea God Island, personally participating alongside Yu Xiaogan, Yu Xiaogang, the Third Elder, and several core Soul Saint clansmen. 249

During the encounter with the Demon Soul Great White Shark group, Yu Yuanzhen and the other Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan members bore the bulk of the incoming attacks. He was later startled when Yu Tianqing revealed the unprecedented Thunder Domain. 261
