Background / History

Yu Yuanzhen succeeded his aging father, Yu Xiaolong, as head of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Yu Xiaolong’s deteriorating health and limited remaining lifespan had led to the position being passed to Yu Yuanzhen earlier than expected. 28

As clan head, Yu Yuanzhen regarded the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s future strength as his foremost concern. He recognized Yu Tianqing’s discovery that refined Whale Glue could temper the body and improve bone strength, personally verifying the effect on a direct-line disciple. He considered the discovery a major contribution capable of raising the soul-ring limits of the clan’s younger generation. 8

He initially viewed Yu Changge as a low-talent child with a malignant mutation, but approved Yu Tianqing’s request to give Changge cultivation resources equal to Yu Xiaogang’s. He also considered granting additional resources to Yu Tianqing and Yu Shuyao because their contribution was worth far more than the requested treatment. 8

Personality

Yu Yuanzhen is pragmatic and strongly clan-oriented. He evaluates people by their conduct, cultivation, and potential rather than solely by bloodline; he refused to shield Yu Xiaogang from consequences simply because Xiaogang was his son, stating that he was clan leader before he was a father. 29

He can be harsh and quick-tempered when he believes clan interests or a child’s future have been jeopardized. After Yu Xiaogang acquired an unsuitable first soul skill, Yu Yuanzhen reprimanded and struck him for relying on shallow theory to judge a soul beast’s suitability. 53

Despite this severity, he shows responsibility for his mistakes.
