Background / History

The Ancient Tree of Life was Zhou Tao’s original martial soul. From its first appearance, it demonstrated the traits he considered central to tree-type martial souls: vitality, binding, imprisonment, piercing, healing, and defense. Zhou Tao rejected the idea that it required control-type soul rings, arguing that greater life force would naturally strengthen every aspect of the martial soul’s branches and roots 1.

After Zhou Tao absorbed the Blue Silver Emperor’s bloodline and right leg bone, the tree underwent a major transformation. Its vitality increased, golden patterns emerged on its body, and it became capable of changing into specialized weapon, restraint, and defense forms 3 4.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, the martial soul absorbed energy from the remains and Spirit Bones of the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings. Once it reached the limit of what Zhou Tao’s body could endure, it evolved into the Golden Ancient Tree 8.

The Golden Ancient Tree subsequently received the Earth Dragon Banyan and Thunderous Hell Prison Vine spirit rings. The former allowed it to establish self-sustaining formations across an entire battlefield, while the latter added formidable lightning-based offense and further improved its resilience 13 26 28.

After Zhou Tao became a Soul Ancestor, he acquired the Mighty Vajra Vine skill from a 50,000-year Mighty Vajra Bear. This further elevated the Golden Ancient Tree’s core traits of vitality and toughness, with a single vine becoming comparable to a hundred of its previous vines combined 35.

During Zhou Tao’s dual divine trial, the Golden Ancient Tree served as the vessel through which he accepted life energy and resisted the destructive power of the Seed of Destruction. Its vines actively devoured destructive lightning and refined it into soul power, contributing to Zhou Tao’s qualification as a successor to both the Goddess of Life and God of Destruction 47 48.

After gaining two Hundred-Thousand-Year spirit rings, the Golden Ancient Tree acquired massive destructive, defensive, and guardian-form capabilities. Zhou Tao later began using groves of the martial soul as lightning rods, continuously absorbing heavenly thunder in pursuit of its next evolution, the Eternal Ancient Tree of Life 49 50 57.

Zhou Tao eventually hunted a Hundred-Thousand-Year Demon-Eyed Tree for the Golden Ancient Tree’s seventh spirit ring. The resulting Golden Tree Avatar gave the martial soul an enormous main-body manifestation and corrosive poison properties 73.
