Background / History

Yu Xiaogang attempted to recruit Zhou Tao at Notting Academy after recognizing his innate full soul power. He insisted that Zhou Tao’s plant-type Ancient Tree of Life should follow a control-system path, recommending a century-old snake soul ring. Zhou Tao rejected his instruction, demonstrated that his tree could bind and attack without soul skills, and accused Yu Xiaogang of plagiarizing Spirit Hall’s accumulated theory. 1

Zhou Tao then publicly exposed Yu Xiaogang’s Pig martial soul, worsening his long-standing inferiority over his weak martial soul. Unable to make Zhou Tao his disciple, Yu Xiaogang left the academy intending to find another genius whose achievements could restore his reputation. 2

He soon accepted Tang San as a disciple and hurriedly took him to hunt a Datura Snake soul beast. While Tang San believed Yu Xiaogang had helped him succeed, Yu Xiaogang privately viewed the successful absorption as proof for his own theory and Tang San as a test subject. 2 3

After encountering Zhou Tao again, Yu Xiaogang provoked him and was defeated. Zhou Tao injured him severely enough that he could not stand and rendered him impotent; Tang San hesitated before intervening. Yu Xiaogang’s humiliation deepened into an obsessive desire for revenge. 10 11 12

More than half a year later, after his physical wounds had largely healed, he decided that Notting Academy lacked the resources to develop Tang San quickly. He brought Tang San and Xiao Wu to Shrek Academy, intending to reunite the Golden Iron Triangle and use powerful disciples to defeat Zhou Tao, validate his theories, and regain fame. 31

At Shrek Academy’s gate, he arrogantly demanded that the gatekeeper summon Flender. After insulting Li Yusong, a Soul Emperor, Yu Xiaogang attacked with Luo Sanpao and was swiftly beaten, suffering a broken leg, damage to his martial soul’s meridians, facial injuries, and lost teeth. Flender later brought him inside for treatment. 32

After joining Shrek, Yu Xiaogang secured authority over disciple training and soul-ring arrangements, requiring students whom he personally instructed to recognize him publicly as their mentor. He dismissed Oscar’s food-type martial soul and looked down on Ma Hongjun’s flawed Phoenix, which created resentment among Shrek’s students. 33

Dugu Bo later came to Shrek with Zhou Tao and forcibly extracted Yu Xiaogang’s Golden Dragon Bloodline. The procedure left Yu Xiaogang weak and unable to stand, while Luo Sanpao shrank into a dull, skeletal state. 53

Yu Xiaogang subsequently revealed his castration to Liu Erlong. Although she professed unwavering devotion and vowed to avenge him, her proposal to bear him an heir through Flender further damaged Yu Xiaogang’s pride. 61 62

Zhou Tao later subjected Yu Xiaogang to further abuse, crushing his right hand, suspending him with Golden Vines, and extracting the Golden Sacred Dragon origin within him. Neither Liu Erlong, Flender, nor the concealed Tang Hao intervened to save him. 65 66

Unable to avenge himself through the Golden Iron Triangle, Yu Xiaogang traveled to Spirit City and appealed to his former lover, Bibi Dong. Though she refused to directly target Zhou Tao because he was protected by Qian Renxue and the Worship Hall, she gave Yu Xiaogang a rare herb that reshaped his body into a feminine form and enabled him to break through to rank 30. 68 69 70

Bibi Dong also made Yu Xiaogang a Spirit Hall elder and dispatched Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo alongside him to confront Dugu Bo. Yu Xiaogang attempted to use this position to demand compensation for his extracted bloodline, but Zhou Tao ignored him and the two Title Douluo came to regard him with contempt. 70 71 72

During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament, Zhou Tao publicly exposed Yu Xiaogang’s relationship with his cousin Liu Erlong. The resulting ridicule drove Yu Xiaogang into seclusion until Tang San restored his resolve to prove his theories through Shrek’s success. 78 81 82

Yu Xiaogang initially urged Shrek to forfeit its match against Zhou Tao and the Imperial Fighting Team, believing Zhou Tao’s all-round Golden Ancient Tree naturally countered Shrek’s lineup. Personality

Yu Xiaogang is prideful, irritable, and highly defensive of his theoretical authority. When Zhou Tao challenged his conclusions, he invoked his decades of research, called himself the continent’s number one theory master, and attempted to use his status as an elder to force compliance. 1 2

His ambition is closely tied to reputation. He sought talented disciples not only to teach them, but to use their accomplishments to elevate his own standing. His treatment of Tang San is portrayed as manipulative: he rushed Tang San into obtaining a soul ring before he could learn more about him, then regarded the boy’s success as validation of his own theory. 2 3

Repeated humiliation makes him increasingly vindictive. He blames Zhou Tao for setbacks even when Zhou Tao was not responsible, demands that Tang San kill Zhou Tao, and relocates to Shrek Academy chiefly to cultivate disciples capable of avenging him. 12 31 32

Yu Xiaogang is dismissive of people and martial souls he considers unworthy of his effort. He undervalues Oscar because of his support-type martial soul and views Ma Hongjun’s mutated Phoenix as having an inadequate foundation. 33

Despite his bluster, he becomes fearful and submissive when confronted by overwhelming power. He panics before Dugu Bo, is unable to act on his rage against Zhou Tao, and calls unsuccessfully for Liu Erlong, Flender, and Tang Hao to rescue him when Zhou Tao extracts his origin. 53 66 78
