Background / History

Yang Lie first appears in the Jade Wutong Immortal Realm as an experienced “old hand” who explains its supposed immortal sanctuary and Seven Immortal Maidens to the newly arrived Hong Yuan. He is knowledgeable but deliberately evasive about the realm’s darker details. 1

He had joined Wu Duxiong, Yang Erhu, and Master Qin in investigating the disappearance of Qin Ziyue. The group traced the case to the Jade Wutong Immortal Realm, where Yang Lie and Master Qin went undercover. Yang Lie entered the manor at least three times to uncover its secrets and was personally selected by Wei Zhenzhu during the operation. 7 9

During the uprising inside the manor, Yang Lie charged the platform with a staff and fought alongside Hong Yuan. After Wu Duxiong and a black-clad ally arrived, the group destroyed the estate and escaped as it burned. 5 8

Yang Lie is Yang Erhu’s nephew. Yang Erhu and Yang Lie’s father are both blood brothers and martial brothers; Yang Lie’s father became a wealthy household head in the prefectural city, while Yang Erhu operated the Yang Family Martial Arts Hall in Yangquan County. 9 Although Yang Lie received some martial guidance from his father, his father sent him to study under another famous teacher rather than giving him the family’s true transmission, a decision Yang Lie resents. 9 13
