Background / History
Assassination Corps Cornelia
Cornelia introduces herself to Mahiro Yotsuba as assassination rank No. 3 and a hand-to-hand specialist. Among Pony, Tsukushi, and Akame, she assumes the role of the most mature “elder sister,” notably stepping in when Pony openly accuses Mahiro of killing her father, Gozuki. 169
During the squad's assessment, Cornelia is deceived after sympathizing with a female prisoner's plea for mercy and turning her back on the supposed victim. Mahiro later explains that the test was meant to teach her the danger of allowing compassion to override vigilance; Cornelia survives, kills only one prisoner, and thanks him for not punishing her mistake. 182
While staying at a hot-spring hotel, Cornelia befriends Taeko without realizing that Taeko belongs to the Oarburgh Assassination Group and is targeting Mahiro. Taeko eventually lures her into the forest and reveals her hostility. Cornelia's remorse over being deceived and her resolve to protect Mahiro drive her to awaken the Crusher King's full power, allowing her to defeat Taeko. 199 201 203 204
Cornelia li Britannia
Cornelia li Britannia is Britannia's Second Princess and a leading contender for the imperial throne. After graduating from military academy with outstanding results, she earns the title Empire's Witch through repeated frontline victories, personally leading troops and fighting in Knightmares rather than remaining a ceremonial royal. 383 384
Mahiro served as her royal tutor during her childhood. Cornelia initially opposed him and repeatedly challenged him, but his martial skill, unusual abilities, and demanding training eventually earned her respect. She later asked him to become her knight, offering to meet any condition, but he refused. 391 440
Following her victory in Area 18 and the death of her brother Clovis, Cornelia transfers to Area 11. She becomes governor, pledges to find Zero, and seeks both to avenge Clovis and to locate Mahiro after his years-long disappearance. 384 391
At Ashford Academy's school festival, Cornelia confronts Mahiro over his departure, his role as Shadow, and his use of the Nation-Protector Divine Machine—Azure Dragon. Although Mahiro confirms his involvement, he denies responsibility for Clovis's death; Cornelia resolves to arrest him if they meet again. 413 414
During the conflict with the Black Knights and Shadow Garden, Mahiro captures Cornelia and exploits her concern for Euphemia to force her withdrawal. She refuses humiliation and initially insists that death is preferable to captivity, but ultimately orders Britannian forces to retreat to prevent further losses. 421 422 423
After Euphemia is believed dead, Cornelia pursues revenge and battles Lelouch in the Governor-General's Palace. She is severely wounded, after which Mahiro reveals that Euphemia survived and had been saved by him and Alpha. By the following year, Cornelia is physically and emotionally subdued, uncertain whether she can forgive Mahiro. 462 477

Her kindness initially leaves her vulnerable to manipulation, but she accepts responsibility for her mistakes. After Taeko's betrayal, regret and loyalty harden into resolve; she fights beyond her limits rather than allow the enemy's deception to endanger Mahiro or her companions. 200 201 204
