Background / History
Chen Junhao was one of three older graduates of the welfare home known privately as the Three Heroes of Iron Ring. Of the three, he was regarded as having made the most of himself. He joined the Hongyi Society, a major Iron Ring District gang noted for its reputation, and attained a position of considerable status. He continued visiting the welfare home and assisting people from the surrounding area rather than distancing himself from them. 6
His influence protected Zhao Yuanqing after a conflict with the Rock Gang; the gang ceased pressuring him because of Brother Hao. Chen Junhao later personally warned Zhao Yuanqing to temper his impulsiveness, while confirming that he had ordered the Rock Gang to stay away from the repair shop. 5 16
He rose within the Hongyi Society from a minor thug to a Red Pole, and is rumored to have begun assuming the responsibilities of a hall master. Master Xu Xiaoxing, an elder of the society, was reportedly Chen Junhao's guide into the trade, though their meeting at Dreamfire Bar carries visible tension. 16 23 44
Chen Junhao subsequently became the effective leader of Hongyi Society's North Street branch. His growing conflict with Young Gang Leader Peng Zhaohui and the society's old guard culminated in an internal betrayal and a large-scale gang clash. Afterward, he chose to leave Prism Ring City to settle his remaining debts personally. 134 177 210 214
After departing the city, Chen Junhao emerged as a wilderness warlord and commander of the Blazing Flame Army. Earlier intelligence also connected him to an army called the Tiger Flame Army. Unlike many warlord forces, his army is reputed to avoid indiscriminate killing and seizure of scavengers' property, instead organizing settlements around cooperation, hunting, mining, and military-civilian integration. 298 509
Appearance
Chen Junhao is an exceptionally sturdy man in his early thirties, standing approximately 1.85 meters tall.
- Black short-sleeved shirts and white suits both fit tightly across his muscular frame. 16 32
- Neatly combed slicked-back hair. 16
- Hard, rugged facial features. 16
- A long, narrow scar sits beside the corner of his left eye. 16
- Often smokes cigarettes. 16 22 32
- He later commonly carries a briar pipe and wears dark overcoats or a black trench coat. 76 106 176
- His physical presence and subtle methods indicate high Vitality. 16
Personality
Brother Hao is loyal, practical, and protective toward people from the welfare home. He provides work, housing help, advice, and intervention when needed, treating the younger graduates with the concern of an elder brother rather than demanding repayment. 6 16
He respects Lu Chao's principles. When Lu Chao refuses to borrow money because he does not want to accumulate favors or place Brother Hao in a difficult position, Chen Junhao is moved rather than offended. 32
Despite his gang position, he consistently refuses to draw Lu Chao into the Hongyi Society. He considers gang life unsuitable for him and supports Lu Chao's ambition to join the Patrol Bureau instead. 22 23 32
Chen Junhao is also cautious and politically astute. Following the Deep Sea assassination attempt, he deliberately pretends to be injured in order to expose the intentions of those within the Hongyi Society who may have arranged it. 134
He distinguishes sharply between loyalty and betrayal. While he acknowledges the bonds he once shared with former subordinates such as A Yue, he does not hesitate to sever those ties when they choose Peng Zhaohui's side. His eventual execution of Lu Weilong is driven by his refusal to treat Zhou Qiang's death as a trivial loss. 211 214 532
