Yu Tianheng's Duel

Ye Lingling feels responsible after Yu Tianheng mistakes her encounter with Xia Yuan for bullying and provokes him into a wagered duel. Xia Yuan tells her to cheer for him instead of blaming herself; she publicly does so during the battle, surprising classmates who know her as quiet and aloof. 17 19

After Xia Yuan wins, she offers to use her family connections to protect him from possible retaliation and then invites him to a meal. 20

One-Year Separation

Before Xia Yuan leaves the academy for a year of cultivation, Ye Lingling is visibly affected by his departure and asks him not to let her and Dugu Yan be left behind in strength. 28
