Mu En can still be awakened in exceptional circumstances, but his remaining soul is destined to dissipate. 442 464 466

Inner and Outer Courts

Luckin Coffee Shops

History

Decline and internal tensions

By the beginning of the story, some observers believed Shrek Academy had declined from its former standards. Its admissions threshold had been reduced, and Bai Ran’s low initial qualification was viewed as insufficient for the academy’s earlier requirements. 2 3 21

Ye Tian, a former Inner Court disciple and longtime cafeteria worker, became disillusioned with the academy after the deaths of his sister and brother-in-law. He believed Shrek neglected support-system soul masters and was compromised by internal power struggles. 67

After Dai Huabin’s attack on Bai Ran, Mu En declined to risk conflict with the Star Luo Empire for someone who had not formally committed his life to Shrek. Mu En later acknowledged sending Ye Tian and Bai Ran away to preserve the academy’s neutrality. 66 77

Ye Tian refused Xuan Zi’s offer to return, even when promised the future post of Sea God Pavilion Vice Master. His reason was simple: Shrek “is no longer the Shrek it once was.” 176
