Background / History

Bai Ran was born in Shrek City after transmigrating to the Douluo Continent. His parents, both Shrek Academy members, died during an operation against evil soul masters shortly after his birth. He was raised by his maternal uncle, Ye Tian, who worked in Shrek Academy’s cafeteria. 1

At age six, Bai Ran awakened Luckin Coffee, an unusual food-type martial soul. His initial Luckin Iced Americano was bitter but refreshing, while its ice cubes did not melt; the awakening overseer considered these traits evidence of an unusual, possibly ultimate attribute. His innate Soul Power measured 9.9, just below innate full Soul Power. 2

He entered the Star Dou Great Forest for his first soul ring and encountered the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. Though she offered him ten-thousand-year soul rings in exchange for becoming her follower, Bai Ran refused to abandon his family. He nevertheless returned with a ten-thousand-year first soul ring and established a lasting connection with her. 16 18

Bai Ran later relocated to the Sun Moon Empire, where his Luckin Coffee Shop became highly popular among Soul Engineers for its spiritual-power restoration. His business became the foundation of his atypical cultivation method: selling Luckin Coffee directly increases his Soul Power. 78 145

Bai Ran began the story as a six-year-old boy. His rapid Soul Power growth accelerated his physical development; by the time he neared level 50, he appeared closer to an eleven- or twelve-year-old. 1 155

He repeatedly turns dangerous situations into negotiations, whether bargaining with ferocious beasts for soul rings, confronting the Ordinary Alliance with cloudburst bombs, or using his drinks to gain allies and customers. 117 362

He is deeply attached to his family and values obligations. He refused the Three-Eyed Golden Lion’s offer because Ye Tian was waiting for him, and later risked himself to fulfill Ye Huaijin’s request to protect Ye Guyi. 16 111 117

Despite his kindness toward those he considers his own, Bai Ran can be manipulative and vindictive toward enemies. He uses the Employee Card to force the Ice Empress into employment, orchestrates humiliating punishment for Zhao Yi, and treats business expansion as the most efficient route to power. 80 163 409
