The reason witchers needed to learn hunting was because sword-oil formulas required fats from many different animals. Dog fat and wolf fat were both marked as universally usable, and these days, wolves were sometimes even easier to find than dogs.

Once the first batch was complete, he sent the girl outside to stand watch while he proceeded with the "incredible" impurity-removal process.

Sometimes, the more one knew, the greater the pressure. Werewolves, in particular, put immense pressure on the youth. They were not opponents normal people could handle through normal means—speed, monstrous strength, sharp claws, thick hide, and regenerative abilities. A mature werewolf could easily make an entire squad of soldiers collapse.
As his hand mechanically stirred the Cursed Creature Oil in the cauldron, Victor appeared calm on the surface. But he knew full well that he was deeply nervous. In a one-on-one battle, he would certainly die; even the Wolf School's ultimate technique would be useless.
At the same time, however, Victor calculated that there was no reason such a dangerous creature could exist in Vizima without anyone knowing about it—unless someone was covering it up. Besides, the werewolf's killings had been rather restrained.
Otherwise, if even one feeding scene that could not be concealed were discovered, it would cause widespread panic among the residents. Things
