Background / History

Tsunade is the granddaughter of the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, and the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama. Her standing as a Konoha Sannin and a legendary female ninja made her return especially significant to the village. 84

Before returning to Konoha, she travelled with Shizune and spent much of her time gambling. Although Shizune repeatedly urged her to resume responsibility in the village, Tsunade had remained retired. 69

When Uchiha Mirai revealed that Orochimaru had used the Impure World Reincarnation Jutsu on Hashirama and Tobirama during Konoha’s near-destruction, Tsunade was horrified and enraged. She struggled between her loyalty to Konoha and her desire to see her grandfather and uncle again. 57

She confronted Orochimaru directly after abandoning any possibility of cooperating with him. During their battle, Orochimaru exploited her hemophobia with blood, leaving her temporarily unable to defend herself until Mirai intervened. 58 59

Tsunade is proud, forceful, and quick to anger when insulted or challenged. Her reaction to Orochimaru’s desecration of the dead shows that her personal loyalty to Konoha and its legacy remains deeply rooted despite her retirement. 57 58

She is also capable of restraint and tactical judgment. While fighting Minato Namikaze, she recognized that pursuing an opponent with space-time ninjutsu carelessly would be ineffective, adapting her approach after his Flying Thunder God counterattack. 269
