Background / History
Sherlock was born into the ancient Mephisto Family, a line associated with dark magic. His father, Fumengde, attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin; his mother is a half-blood witch and Ravenclaw graduate. His godfather is Lucius Malfoy. 6 11 28
As a child, Sherlock created the healing spell Scarless Healing and demonstrated it publicly on a cut hand. The Daily Prophet revealed his identity, bringing him international attention. He made the spell public rather than selling exclusive access to it, and received a Third Class Order of Merlin from Minister Cornelius Fudge. 4 5 6
By age eight, he had spent three years inventing and publishing spells, generally limiting public releases to non-controversial work. His growing reputation earned him the title Spell Prince, while a Chocolate Frog card documented his unusually extensive catalog of inventions. 19 20
Sherlock later became an Obscurial but successfully learned to control his Obscurus with help from Newt Scamander and St. Mungo's personnel. He was thereafter known as the only controllable Obscurial, with an Obscurus considered extraordinarily destructive. 23 24 42
He enrolled at Hogwarts at age eleven. Though the Sorting Hat recognized qualities suited to every House, it ultimately placed him in Slytherin. 28
Appearance
Sherlock is noted for his composed, elegant bearing and unusually striking appearance.
- Platinum-blond hair. 28
- Handsome face. 28
- Emerald eyes. 262
- Projects an imposing magical presence that can silence or unsettle a room. 28 75
- Can manifest as black, formless magical mist through his Obscurus. 24 310
Personality
Sherlock is intensely intellectual, self-assured, and driven by magical research. He values knowledge, often studies independently, and prefers quiet reading over the crowds his fame attracts. His reading speed and memory are considered exceptional even at Hogwarts. 114
He is generally calm, polite, and controlled in public. He mediates conflicts, defends students he considers unfairly treated, and openly rejects the idea that blood purity determines a wizard's worth. 75 146 151
However, he is also calculating and willing to manipulate events for a desired outcome. He engineered tournament outcomes, negotiates transactions with Dumbledore, and sometimes admits to enjoying manipulation. 40 88 341
