Background and History
Hermione was raised by her Muggle parents, Wendell and Monica Granger, both dentists. Her Hogwarts letter initially seemed like a prank to the family, but they were delighted once her magical ability was confirmed. Before beginning school, Hermione memorized her textbooks and read additional historical works on the wizarding world. 69 116 321
On the Hogwarts Express, Hermione introduced herself to Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Axinsha Mephisto. Her confidence in her own preparation initially came across as arrogance, particularly to Axinsha, but she and Axinsha soon formed a close friendship through their shared interest in studying and the Muggle world. 69 82
Hermione qualified for the Sherlock Club by correctly solving one of its difficult logic papers. She began studying Sherlock Mephisto’s childhood research notes with unusual persistence, refusing to stop even when older students mocked her as “Miss Notebook.” After meeting Sherlock in the library, she received personal guidance and access to a concealed portion of his notes. 82 83
During the Halloween troll incident, Hermione was trapped in the girls’ bathroom and rescued by Sherlock, Axinsha, Harry, and Ron. She then claimed responsibility for confronting the troll alone, protecting Harry and Ron from punishment at the cost of ten Gryffindor points. 90 91
Hermione was later petrified during the Chamber of Secrets attacks and found near the library alongside Justin Finch-Fletchley. Her Petrification devastated Axinsha and prompted stricter security measures throughout Hogwarts. She recovered after the Mandrake restorative potion was completed. 173 187
In her third year, Hermione used a Ministry-registered Time-Turner to attend every elective course she had selected. Axinsha considered Hermione’s study schedule excessive, while Hermione treated the additional time as an opportunity to pursue every available subject. 209
Personality
Hermione is intensely academic, logical, and disciplined. She values preparation, correct reasoning, and evidence, whether challenging unsupported accusations against Draco Malfoy or criticizing Harry’s reliance on an annotated textbook rather than his own skill. 323 322
Her determination can become confrontational. She openly scolds Harry for prioritizing Quidditch over academics, fiercely defends Sherlock when Ron belittles his notes, and refuses to be discouraged by ridicule over studying material beyond her level. 82 84 83
Despite her pride and bluntness, Hermione is protective of the people she loves. She uses her knowledge to support Harry after traumatic magic, participates in efforts against Voldemort’s Horcruxes, and defines her goal in learning magic as protecting her family and bringing happiness to those around her. 86 342 202
