Chapter 33: I've Come for Three Things
Hanging up the phone with Sabre, Lin Hao fell into deep thought.
Ever since joining the S.P.E.A.R. ten years ago and gaining a certain level of power, Lin Hao had become interested in Xu Wenwu and Jia Ying.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe clearly stated that Xu Wenwu had lived for over a thousand years, and Jia Ying possessed powerful self-healing abilities. She could be put back together and survive even after her organs were dug out, her blood drained, and she was torn apart by five horses.
Director Lin was not one for sentimentality; he wanted them!
Ever since discovering fifteen years ago that the world he was in was the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all of Lin Hao's efforts had been focused on defeating Director Mie and surviving. This was his highest goal at the current stage.
The little devil had given him the chance to change his fate, but "randomness" was too unreliable. Lin Hao could only try his best to collect "Essence of Grievance," hoping that one day he could obtain treasures like the Nine Revolutions Golden Elixir or the Jade Tablet of Creation. If not, even a Devil Passport or Hong Tai Lang's frying pan would be acceptable. Getting a Fourth-Dimensional Pocket would also allow him to hide and save his life.
At the very least, obtaining a Door to Anywhere would allow him to get to the planet Morag first, grab the Power Stone, and hide it in the alternate dimension opened by the little devil, thus preventing Director Mie from collecting all six Infinity Stones. This was also a viable plan.
Therefore, after gaining a certain level of strength and controlling certain resources, Lin Hao couldn't wait to come to America. On one hand, it would be easier to cause trouble and harvest "Essence of Grievance." On the other hand, he would try to find the Space Stone collected by S.H.I.E.L.D.
Although the Space Stone was being watched by Odin, Lin Hao could wait until he died of old age to snatch it. After personally using the Holy Spear once, Lin Hao's confidence grew, and perhaps he didn't need to wait anymore.
Surviving Director Mie's arrival was Lin Hao's first goal, and his second goal was naturally longevity.
With the resources of the myriad worlds, Lin Hao had long thought about longevity. Moreover, the Marvel world had so many immortal beings. Living a mere hundred years was bound to leave him feeling unfulfilled.
If the little devil could quickly obtain treasures like the Nine Revolutions Golden Elixir and Jade Pool Peaches, that would be ideal. After all, the methods of longevity in the Marvel world, unless one possessed racial talent, all came with certain costs. Eastern concepts of longevity were more to Lin Hao's liking.
However, randomness was too difficult to control, so Lin Hao had to make backup plans, considering it a spare move.
Xu Wenwu and Jia Ying were the easiest opportunities for longevity, with relatively smaller costs compared to other methods.
Both originated from China, and the S.P.E.A.R.'s intelligence network could be of use.
Lin Hao changed into a tactical suit, restored his physique, put on a black metal mask, and boarded a Wakandan fighter jet modified with technology from the One Piece World and Dragon Ball World.
The modified fighter jet's maximum speed could now break through Earth's gravity and enter low Earth orbit, but it was still far from interstellar travel, and it lacked space jump technology.
Lin Hao and the S.P.E.A.R. did not have a star chart. On the other hand, Nick Fury, who had incorporated the Skrulls and had Captain Marvel as an external ally, definitely possessed a star chart.
It could only be said that S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of Marvel's favored children. Nick Fury had experienced too many fortunate encounters, and his foundation was even greater than that of the S.P.E.A.R., which had a history of two thousand years.
Although Zhang Heng had experienced the Celestial event and passed down god-slaying weapons like the Holy Spear to future generations, he still lacked advanced aerospace technology. Unlike "Black Nick Fury," who found a ship of fleeing aliens before even leaving his doorstep, becoming rich overnight.
Spaceships, star charts, they had everything.
However, Nick Fury had possessed these key technologies for over a decade but had never considered leading human civilization towards interstellar exploration and expanding humanity's living space. He only thought about "protecting" Earth, dealing with alien threats, and maintaining the world order established by America.
"You just need to work honestly, and the masters will protect you from alien harm."
As for the people who died caught in the crossfire... alas, what world doesn't have deaths every day?
As long as the free order remains intact, America will forever be great!
Lin Hao was not about to indulge these "freedom elites." His third goal was, after achieving the first two, to try and help his own kind venture into the sea of stars.
"When poor, cultivate oneself; when successful, help the world."
Lin Hao wasn't that great, but he didn't mind doing what he could. Otherwise, after achieving longevity, would he spend all his days playing with beautiful women by the water?
He'd get bored!
If it were another world, he wouldn't dare to speak so boldly. After all, humanity knew nothing about outer space. But the Marvel universe was filled with civilizations, so there was no need to worry about getting lost.
Lin Hao now lacked only three things: his own strength, interstellar travel technology, and an accurate star chart.
If he encountered any obstacles in achieving his three goals, such as S.H.I.E.L.D. or America, he would simply crush them!
Carrying these thoughts, the cloaked aircraft crossed the Atlantic, heading towards Afghanistan.
Lin Hao held a life card of Tony Stark, made from hair he had taken from the man's head at a banquet that evening.
He was not here to save anyone, only to find someone.
Upon arriving in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, Lin Hao slowed down, flying at a low altitude along the direction indicated by the life card, spreading out his Observation Haki along the way.
After some time, he finally located Tony Stark in a mountainous region.
Lin Hao leaped from the aircraft, holding an Azure Dragon Crescent Blade forged from Vibranium.
After copying some of Whitebeard's memories, Lin Hao learned some of his swordsmanship. He wasn't used to the naginata; Guan Yu's Azure Dragon Crescent Blade was more to his aesthetic taste.
Lin Hao did not charge into the deep mountain cave where Tony Stark was held. Instead, he walked towards the camp in the valley.
"Who's there?"
"Stop!"
"Open fire!"
The armed militants, spotting Lin Hao walking brazenly towards them, immediately blurted out a barrage of languages.
An invisible shockwave swept over them, and all the henchmen collapsed.
Lin Hao walked into the tent at the center of the camp as if nothing had happened and found the bald man in charge.
He didn't wait for the man to wake up naturally, nor did he waste time finding water to pour on his head. Instead, he swung his blade and severed the bald man's arm.
The blade flashed, and the arm broke off, as smooth as butter.
The intense pain jolted the unconscious bald man awake. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw a black metal mask, and his face contorted in terror.
"The... Great Demon Lord!"
"It seems I'm somewhat known." A cold voice came from behind the metal mask. "Then don't waste my time. Tell me Xu Wenwu's whereabouts, and I'll give you a quick death."
The bald man's expression changed drastically, a mix of pain and fear.
He never expected that kidnapping Tony Stark would attract this god of death.
The title "Great Demon Lord" wasn't just "somewhat known" within the S.P.E.A.R.'s sphere of influence; for organizations operating in the shadows like them, he was practically a monstrous killer!
Although the "Ten Rings Gang" was an international organization, its leader, Xu Wenwu, was Chinese. Many of its millennia-old elders had Chinese bloodlines. These elders would select one or two of their own descendants to inherit their power and wealth, inevitably infusing the Ten Rings Gang's upper echelons with a strong Chinese influence.
Moreover, since the leader Xu Wenwu wouldn't die, how could the gang members dare to discriminate based on skin color?
This gang had a legacy spanning a thousand years, with deep roots in East Asia and Southeast Asia, making it impossible to abandon. Therefore, in recent years, conflicts with the growing S.P.E.A.R. were unavoidable, and the name "Great Demon Lord" naturally spread within the Ten Rings Gang.
Lin Hao never showed mercy to such scum. Furthermore, to harvest more "Essence of Grievance," his methods were always brutal.
To his enemies, the "Great Demon Lord" was naturally a monster, but to his colleagues at S.P.E.A.R., he was a reliable leader, albeit one who could easily drive people to emotional breakdown.
"No... I... I don't know!" Facing the monstrous killer, the bald man stammered, "We haven't seen the leader for many years!"
"All the branches are operating independently now. Everyone is waiting for the leader to return. We know the leader's strength, and no one dares to rebel."
"I... I was just earning some extra cash here..."
The bald man cried. He was kidnapping an American, so why did he have to run into the Great Demon Lord?
Lin Hao observed his expression closely. Seeing that the man genuinely didn't know Xu Wenwu's whereabouts, he swung his blade and granted him a quick death.
The bald man's severed head rolled on the ground. In his final moments, he saw the Great Demon Lord turn and leave, deliberately sparing his subordinates.
Damn it! Why didn't the henchmen have to die?
Does being a boss mean you deserve discrimination?
Actually, Lin Hao knew he was unlikely to find anything this time, but he came with a sliver of hope.
Just as he was about to jump back onto the plane, gunshots and the terrified screams of armed men erupted from a deep mountain cave nearby.
Lin Hao had previously controlled the direction of his Haoshoku Haki, so it hadn't affected the people inside the cave.
A few armed men who had narrowly escaped death scrambled out of the cave, looking back with terror.
A moment later, a ruggedly styled suit of armor burst out. Compared to the armor in the movies, this suit's movements were more fluid, and its physique was more slender.
Tony Stark, piloting the suit, was followed by Yinsen, who was holding a submachine gun. It seemed Tony had built the suit faster this time, and by chance, Lin Hao had arrived. He hadn't sacrificed himself to buy time.
Both groups arrived at the cave entrance and suddenly felt the valley had become too quiet.
Then, they were astonished to discover that everyone in the valley had collapsed.
Naturally, their gazes converged on Lin Hao, who was wearing a black metal mask.
"You are..." Tony Stark paused, then asked with surprise and joy, "Here to save me?"
As a famous figure in America and a genius inventor, Tony was certain that many people would be busy rescuing him after his disappearance.
Lin Hao remained silent. He secretly calculated the time and realized only two months had passed since Tony's kidnapping, a significant reduction from the three months in the original story.
Seeing the clearly superior armor he was wearing, and recalling the scene he had witnessed through Will Fordson's perspective, Lin Hao understood.
It turned out that having a prior practical experience in building the armor had significantly sped up the process this time.
But Tony Stark couldn't go back now!
Lin Hao didn't care what model of armor Tony used to escape; he only cared about the timing of his escape.
Thus, a wave of Haoshoku Haki swept out.
Both groups at the cave entrance simultaneously collapsed.
With that done, Lin Hao took out his Den Den Mushi and called Sabre.
"Here's a chance for you to go on an assignment. Come to Afghanistan and keep Tony Stark locked up for another month!"
"Huh?" Sabre was bewildered.
"Don't want to?" Lin Hao retorted.
"Yes!" Sabre eagerly replied, "I want to!"
No matter who it was, after finally getting a chance to re-enter the field, if he didn't seize it, he would truly have to transition to administrative work.
"Very good. Wait for my signal, and then I'll let him go," Lin Hao said, hanging up with satisfaction.
Stark Industries' stock price hadn't hit rock bottom yet. Lin Hao hadn't started his bottom-fishing acquisition. How could he let Tony go back?
Whether he made money or not was secondary; the title of "S.P.E.A.R. Stock God" couldn't be lost!
Just now, he refreshed the page and saw he had entered the new book rankings!
Although it was only 99th place, he was still a little excited~
