Cityscape and Landmarks

Emerald City is an ancient, thousand-year-old city distinguished by enormous walls, dense magical elements, towering magic towers, and old magical architecture. It is renowned as a place where generations of magical geniuses left their mark. 373 383 543

• City walls — Originally dozens of meters high and heavily imposing; they were damaged during the undead and vampire invasion, then repaired alongside ruined homes. 383 549

History

Magical Holy City

Emerald City had already existed since ancient times when Xia Ming first learned of it. Its concentration of mages, high-level practitioners, magic towers, magical families, and rare materials made it one of the three continents’ foremost centers for magical cultivation. 373 383 384

Its political structure was comparatively loose despite its reputation. The city possessed many powerful experts, but many did not directly serve its government; in name, it remained under the Sacred Council’s authority. 413

Roland once served as one of Emerald City’s guardians, a class of secretive, prestigious protectors who emerge when major cities face crises. Half a year before Xia Ming’s inquiry, Roland was already a Level Twelve Legendary expert. 411

Xia Ming’s Early Visits

Xia Ming first entered Emerald City after the destruction of Ghostfire Tower, intending to seek Roland on Saladin’s behalf and to experience the city’s exceptional magical environment. He was struck by its massive walls, dense magic, and abundance of high-level mages. 383

Later, Roland arranged for Xia Ming to use the Star Tower for his breakthrough to the Legendary realm. The then-City Lord approved the request due to his friendship with Roland and his assessment of Xia Ming’s potential. 476 477

After Xia Ming became a Legendary expert, he killed the Fran Family Head and captured the black mage Mamba within the city. The former City Lord publicly treated Xia Ming’s intervention as a defense of Emerald City against black mages, while the two reached an unspoken political arrangement: Xia Ming would support the City Lord, and the City Lord would overlook Xia Ming’s action against the Fran Family. 484

Undead Invasion and Succession Crisis

The Blood Clan and black mages later breached the Human Alliance blockade and sent a force of roughly one hundred thousand undead and vampires toward Emerald City. The City Lord, Alex, died in battle against Gaia, leaving the city without leadership. 543 555

Emerald City endured the initial assault with support from the Human Alliance, but the invasion visibly weakened it: magic towers lay in ruins, magical elements had thinned, and citizens were repairing walls and collapsed buildings. 544 549

The Human Alliance authorized a contest for the vacant City Lord position, with Mage’s Eye hosting the selection at Rose Arena. Major powers could recommend candidates, while qualified Legendary experts within Emerald City could enter by passing a trial. 548 555

Xia Ming’s Rule

Xia Ming won the contest and was formally invested as Emerald City’s City Lord before tens of thousands of spectators. He received the Supreme Scepter, a jade ceremonial token representing the office rather than a functional magic staff. 585

His appointment restored public confidence after Alex’s death. Citizens celebrated throughout the city, while Xia Ming moved into the City Lord’s Manor and began addressing the city’s war damage, factional tensions, and intelligence concerning the black mages and vampires. 585 586

When the Crystal Tower provoked a street conflict with Sun City, Xia Ming enforced Emerald City law by expelling the offenders despite pressure from Richards of the Holy Temple. His response secured the approval of Mage’s Eye and other established local forces, who considered firm leadership necessary during the crisis. 590 591

Defense Against the Dark Nest

After Xia Ming’s months-long absence caused unrest and rumors, he returned with roughly a thousand hidden experts from the Hundred Races. Their arrival immediately raised civilian morale and gave Emerald City a powerful reserve force. 699 700

Nicholas, master of the Dark Nest, subsequently attacked with the Undead Legion. Xia Ming coordinated Emerald City’s army under Lone Wolf, the Hundred Races under Lucy, and Di Nisha’s dragons to surround the enemy from multiple directions. 703 704

Emerald City destroyed the hundred-thousand-strong Undead Legion and killed Nicholas, though the battle caused more than ten thousand casualties. The victory greatly elevated Emerald City’s continental standing and cemented Xia Ming’s prestige among its citizens. 707
