| Name | BOSS |
| Type | Title; monster or encounter classification; also used informally for player leaders 7 66 213 |
| Occupation/Role | High-threat monster or encounter; in some games, the leader of the monster faction 64 213 |
| First Appearance | Informal title applied to Jin Xin 7; monster-boss terminology used before the Corpse Chief encounter 50; Corpse Chief encounter 64 |
Classification
A BOSS is an encounter classification rather than a single species. Documented bosses include evil cultivators, ghosts, treasure guardian beasts, mechanical lifeforms, and Netherworld entities 64 71 443 642.
The designation is also distinct from a creature's level and race rank. The Corpse Chief was described as a Tier 4 monster with a BOSS template, while Other Shore: Lord of the Remnant Nether was a final BOSS with Lord race rank. Nico Sebastian and Horror Haunted House likewise have BOSS in their type descriptions while possessing Lord race tier 66 427 721.
| Monster Rank | Position in Hierarchy | Documented Example |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary | Lowest listed monster rank | — |
| Elite | Above ordinary | — |
| Commander | Above elite | Saladin, Level 15 274 |
| Boss | Above commander | Lava Behemoth, Level 40 642 |
| Lord | Above boss | Other Shore: Lord of the Remnant Nether 427 |
| Overlord | Above lord; an Overlord-rank life-form can alter material constants | Other Shore: Lord of the Remnant Nether's impending mature form; World Bat 427 700 |
Player and NPC Applications
- Informal leadership title: Players addressed Jin Xin as “Boss Jin” while seeking water and protection. Wang Ao later offered to acknowledge Xu Lang as their boss if Xu Lang won a duel 7 27.
- Player-controlled monster boss: He Tian became the monster faction's sole boss and received a choice of ultimate monster forms. He selected Aberrant Demon and attempted to organize the transformed players against Xu Lang 213.
- Player as a final encounter: Within the Baleful Demon Box, Xu Lang could manifest an unkillable version of his peak form. The Ghost of Gluttony encountered him as the final boss at the box's deepest level 376.
- Recruitable former bosses: The Four-Eyed Director had been the final boss of Dusk Building's sixteenth round before Nurarihyon recruited him 395.
- NPC bosses beyond player limits: Level 50 was identified as the player level cap, not an NPC limit. Xu Lang considered a boss above Level 50 serious enough to demand caution even from Titan Building 918.
- Potential rather than automatic enemies: Wang Yazhi noted that some ultimate bosses might be present from the beginning of a game. Wen Heng subsequently questioned whether martial artists classified as ultimate bosses would inevitably become enemies, leaving the relationship between encounter status and faction allegiance uncertain 969.
Boss Mechanics
| Mechanic | Documented Use |
|---|---|
| Minion summoning | The Corpse Chief used a bell to summon six Level 2 zombies at a time. 65 |
| Dormitory-wide debuff | Headless Knight's Blessing reduced all players' mobility by 20% after they left their dormitories. 176 |
| Phase change | The Blood Gu Child enlarged into a two-meter-tall form after suffering heavy damage, dramatically increasing its threat. 70 |
| Exceptional durability | The Corpse Chief possessed an Adamantine Body and was explicitly distinguished from an ordinary Tier 4 monster by its BOSS template. Separately, General Golden Spear's door-breaking attack prompted Li Shuwen to compare the Third-Floor BOSS to a Tier 5 monster. 64 66 |
| Timed escalation | Other Shore: Lord of the Remnant Nether had to be killed or survived for 35 minutes; after 30 minutes, it could mature into an Overlord capable of altering reality's laws. 427 |
| Environmental aftermath | The World Bat's defeat caused an explosion powerful enough to pierce space, leaving residual energy too dangerous for immediate corpse recovery. 710 |
| Controlled minion assault | General Golden Spear attacked with two Tier 3 warrior attendants. After breaking a dormitory door, he blocked the entrance while his subordinates killed the occupants, preventing escape. 66 |
| Area attacks against groups | Jack O'Lantern Jack used Pumpkin Bomb, Pumpkin Missile, and Pumpkin Chain Explosion against players emerging into the corridor. His specialization made surrounding him less effective, although the lull after his attacks created an opening. 182 |
| Innate resurrection | Xu Lang identified the Three Evil Gods' resurrection as an innate skill and estimated them to be around Level 50 boss monsters. 673 |
| Trial-dependent encounters | The constitution limit-break trial generated bosses according to Xu Lang's cognitive framework and cultivation knowledge; another participant would encounter different scenes. 508 |
| Drops before defeat | Players attacked the World Bat and collected treasure chests it released while it was still alive. Xu Lang exploited its sleep periods and evaded its purple beams while collecting chests. 707 |
| Aura-based crowd control | Nico Sebastian's emergence caused forced control lasting three, five, or even thirty seconds for different players. Turrets were unaffected and continued firing. 721 |
| Information suppression | Nico Sebastian and Horror Haunted House had unreadable skill listings. Players used artillery to probe an otherwise unreadable boss's durability and mechanics rather than assuming that its level and life tier guaranteed balanced combat strength. 721 |
Floor-Based Boss Rounds
The Ten Evil Arts Masters appeared during the sixth round of the early dormitory game, which lasted twelve hours. Ten Tier 4 bosses in one round were considered unusually dangerous even with Phase 3 players present. Xu Lang's group had advance knowledge that all ten possessed weaknesses 64 65.
During Bless Halloween, the fourth game, ten classic ghost and monster figures served as exclusive floor bosses and imposed building-wide special effects. Players could not travel to other floors before defeating their own boss, while a boss could not change floors before killing every player on its floor 175.
The Halloween bosses appeared at half-hour intervals after Glutton. Several blessings imposed cumulative pressure, making prolonged defensive play increasingly dangerous 177 178.
| Floor | BOSS | Documented Blessing |
|---|---|---|
| First | Glutton | The first boss in the appearance sequence; its blessing is not specified in the cited account. 177 |
| Second | Headless Knight | All players' mobility decreased by 20% outside their dormitories. 176 |
| Third | Mad Witch | Released Purgatory Fire to burn all dormitory doors every hour. 177 |
| Fourth | Fear Scarecrow | Introduced a SAN-value condition under which reaching zero caused madness. 177 |
| Fifth | Butcher | Increased players' chance of bleeding by 100%. 177 |
| Sixth | Jack O'Lantern Jack | Increased the natural temperature by 15 degrees every two hours. 177 |
| Seventh | Pharaoh Mummy | Released Breath of Sleep during dreams, interfering with players' rest. 177 |
| Eighth | Mourning Lady | Required mourning for her deceased husband and prohibited noise in the corridors. 177 |
| Ninth | Red Butterfly | Automatically deducted 5% of every player's funds each hour. 177 |
| Tenth | Clown Emperor | Its blessing is not specified in the cited account. 179 |
Weaknesses and Counterplay
- Weakness information: Xu Lang's group learned that all ten Evil Arts Masters had weaknesses before the round began. He later supplied Wu Huihui with a method of countering the Painted Skin Ghost 64 73.
- Appropriate defensive facilities: The Blood Gu Child's insect swarms were especially effective against dormitories equipped only with crossbows; area-damage facilities were needed to counter them 66.
- Concentrated attacks: During Bless Halloween, Xu Lang treated the bosses' isolation as an exploitable weakness and prepared Dormitory 200 to attack together rather than rely entirely on discovering individual gimmicks 178.
- Limits of surrounding a boss: Jack O'Lantern Jack's area attacks demonstrated that numerical superiority did not guarantee safety, although players could exploit gaps between his skill volleys 182.
- Level is not equivalent to skill level: Cao Yaxuan's Level 10 Supreme Frost Aura did not make her automatically capable of defeating a Level 10 boss 176.

| Uncountable | Second-Floor ghost BOSS 71 | Used illusions, fireballs, bewitched incense, and fox traps to lure hallucinating players from their dormitories. 71 | Xu Lang and Wang Yazhi exploited its incense and hostility toward the Mad Craftsman to defeat it. 71 |
| Headless Knight | Second-Floor BOSS 176 | Rode a black warhorse, wielded a three-meter spear, shrugged off turret fire, and broke a Level 5 Dark Gold Gate within several strikes. 176 | Its arrival prompted Xu Lang's group to research its weaknesses rather than confront it immediately. 176 |
| Clown Emperor | Level 8 Monster; Tenth-Floor BOSS 179 | Possessed Magic Fire Ring, Magic Box, Hat Trick, Grandmaster Throwing, Flexible and Splendid Body, and Super Intuition. His Magic Cloth swallowed incoming skills and items. 179 | Dormitory 200 confronted him directly; Xu Lang wounded his heel with the Pain Greatblade, combining amplified pain with paralysis and burning. 179 |
| Jack O'Lantern Jack | Sixth-Floor BOSS 177 182 | Imposed escalating heat and specialized in area attacks using pumpkin bombs, missiles, and chain explosions. 177 182 | Sixth-Floor players organized a counterattack after Pharaoh Mummy's death and gained the advantage by exploiting pauses between his attacks. 182 |
| Butcher Tom | Level 8 Monster; Fifth-Floor BOSS 182 | Possessed Monster Physique and Deep Crimson Fierce Eyes. A former True Spirit-level Butcher Sequence holder, he endured players' attacks while continuing to slaughter them. 182 | Fell during the subsequent encounter, yielding the Cleaver, Deep Crimson Fierce Eyes, and Crimson Prayer Book. 183 |
| Beast Tamer | D-39 Sequence BOSS 208 | A Sequence boss carrying a leather jacket and an Excellent Beast-Taming Whip. 208 | Xu Lang killed it in seven slashes. 208 |

Claimed total attributes above two hundred and attempted to rally the monster players to eliminate Xu Lang. 213 | Xu Lang, transformed into a Six-Eyed Mountain Xiao, overwhelmed him with precise attacks from the Blood Pelican Demon Blade. 213 |
| Xu Lang within the Baleful Demon Box | Final boss of the box's inner world 376 | Could manifest his peak form as an unkillable presence within the Strange Tale he had perfectly tamed; his true body could also descend when necessary. 376 | Confronted the Ghost of Gluttony at the deepest part of the box in the form of the Yin-Yang Corpse Immortal. 376 |
| Four-Eyed Director | Former final boss of Dusk Building's sixteenth round 395 | Recruited by Nurarihyon; possessed exceptional speed and deadly blade techniques, remaining close to the Yin-Yang Corpse Immortal even through Ethereal Tracelessness. 395 403 | Joined Dusk Building's directors in fighting Xu Lang and the Yin-Yang Corpse Immortal. 403 |
| Other Shore: Lord of the Remnant Nether | Level 22 Juvenile Netherworld Source Essence Creature; Lord rank; final BOSS 427 | Wielded the Sun Sword and Yin Sword; possessed high Spirit, Nether Soul Power, recovery, and Other Shore Forbidden Zone, which suppressed spatial abilities. Its displayed attributes were 700 Constitution, 2,000 Spirit, and 500 Nether Soul Power. 427 | Activated after the Dream Ephemeral Flowers matured. 427 |
| Apocalypse Fighter V-7 | Level 60 Transcendent Warfare Weapon; Boss rank 443 | Equipped with beam cannons, beam sabers, photon thrusters, Gatling cannons, an energy shield, self-repair, and an advanced digital mind. 443 | Xu Lang fought it in Dawn City and ultimately left behind its wreckage. 446 450 |
