Background / History
Origin and Rule of the Far North
Snow Empress was born from the Far North’s pure ice-element energy and possessed immense power from the beginning of her existence. Her connection to the region allowed her to draw on its freezing energy, making her especially formidable within her homeland 153 154.
Her purpose as ruler was to protect the Far North rather than claim authority over all Soul Beasts. Before leaving, she placed its affairs under Ice Empress and A Tai’s care, then ordered Ice Bear King Xiao Bai to remain behind. She judged that Xiao Bai and A Tai together were needed to restrain Ice Empress’s domineering treatment of other races 150 157.
Snow Lotus and the Fusion Proposal
With her seventh Heavenly Tribulation expected in a few thousand years, Snow Empress doubted that she could survive it. She sought the Hundred-Thousand-Year Snow Lotus as a vessel capable of bearing her excessive power and helping her transform into a human. Her search brought her into contact with Qin Qi, who had already taken the lotus 147 148.
She immediately saw through his spiritual disguise, but his genuine savage-beast transformation confused her assessment of his nature. Qin Qi exploited that uncertainty through carefully worded truths, allowing her to believe that he was a Soul Beast who had taken human form. He then proposed that she become his fourth Martial Soul: he would help her survive, and she would help him pursue godhood 148 149.
The independent bodies and consciousnesses of Qin Qi’s existing Martial Souls made the proposal credible to her. Although reluctant to bind herself to a stranger, she agreed to try after settling the Far North’s affairs 149 150.
Heavenly Tribulation and Partnership
The fusion required Qin Qi to temporarily distribute her enormous reserves into Soul Rings and the Snow Lotus. Despite their attempt to conceal her Soul Beast aura, the process drew the Heavenly Tribulation early 151 152.
While rebuilding her rings, Snow Empress became unable to defend herself reliably. Her attempt to intercept the fourth lightning strike with Emperor’s Palm failed when her form destabilized. Qin Qi protected her despite severe injuries, then urged her to regard them as partners whose troubles belonged to both of them. She responded by merging into his body and entrusting him with her power 152 153.
Together, they gathered the Far North’s freezing energy and destroyed the tribulation clouds. Afterward, Snow Empress thanked Qin Qi for being the first person to protect her. She also named the newly awakened Snow Lotus and proposed that they care for the childlike Soul Beast together 154.
Travels Beyond the Far North
At Spirit City, Snow Empress intercepted Qian Daoliu’s sudden sword strike before Qin Qi or his nearby allies could react. She and Qin Qi combined her Ultimate Ice with his swordsmanship to deliver a retaliatory strike and escape. The encounter exposed the limits of their combined state: Qin Qi’s body could sustain her high-output power for only about five minutes 170 172.
She subsequently accompanied him through Slaughter City and to Sea God Island. Her ultimate arts remained usable within Slaughter City’s suppression domain. On Sea God Island, she preserved Qin Qi’s vitality during his dangerous Soul Sage breakthrough and later helped stabilize the sea’s energy into his eighth Soul Ring 173 174 202 209.
Family, Growth, and Independence
Although Snow Empress initially explained her attachment to Qin Qi as a need for complementary energy, she became increasingly afraid of losing him. Bo Saixi’s advice prompted her to confront that fear. Wanting to end her isolation and establish a clan of her own, she asked Qin Qi to have children with her; his promise of responsibility reassured her 180 208 210.
After reaching eight hundred thousand years of cultivation, she openly thanked him for giving her protection, companionship, and a home. She also secured his promise not to hunt the Soul Beasts of the Far North, while offering to help him hunt powerful beasts elsewhere 215 217.
When Qin Qi became capable of separating his companions from himself, Snow Empress first asked whether he would remain with her even without their shared power. Once reassured, she accepted reconstruction. Qin Qi shaped her new body from blood vitality gathered in Slaughter City and carefully transferred her ice-and-snow power into it. She emerged as a human possessing Soul Beast power, no longer his Martial Soul 220 221.
Appearance
- Hair: Snow-white and long enough to reach her feet 147.
- Eyes: Described as carrying the color of a vast sky 147.
- Face and build: Cold, elegant features with fair, slender, long limbs 147.
- Voice: Ethereal; her usual delivery is flat and restrained 148 151.
- Accessory: An ice-flower hairpin containing the Essence of Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow 180.
- Fusion effect on Qin Qi: His hair turns white and his pupils icy blue when he channels her power 151 154.
Personality
Snow Empress initially exhibits little emotional fluctuation, even when discussing her possible death. She calmly accepts the prospect of failure after doing her best, contrasting with Qin Qi’s refusal to stop struggling before the final outcome. Once she decides on a course of action, she proceeds firmly; her announcement to Ice Empress is a decision, not a request for permission 148 150 152.
Her intelligence does not translate into familiarity with human society or romance. She knows little about the outside world, takes Qin Qi’s explanations of their attraction seriously, and asks him to teach her unfamiliar cultivation concepts. This combination makes her perceptive about power but susceptible to his misleading language and emotional rationalizations 148 149 157 160.
Life with Qin Qi brings out irritation, humor, affection, jealousy, and vulnerability. She recognizes this as a beneficial movement from the extreme of ice toward the beginning of fire, noting improved cultivation and easier control of ice-and-snow energy. Her concern becomes instinctive: she protects him during dangerous cultivation and reacts fiercely to others plotting against him 180 202 205 218.
Her protective outlook is centered on her homeland, not on Soul Beasts universally. She safeguards Ice Empress’s freedom and the Far North’s inhabitants, but considers hunting Star Dou Great Forest Soul Beasts acceptable 150 156 217.
Abilities & Skills
Ultimate Ice and Snow Manipulation
- Controls extreme cold, snow, and ice; even ordinary contact with her hands could freeze a normal person stiff 149.
- Creates precisely shaped ice objects, including a sheet used for Qin Qi’s letter and a floral hairpin 157 180.
- Uses ice internally to preserve Qin Qi’s vitality and protect his origin during a destructive breakthrough 202.
- After bodily reconstruction, her first breath freezes the surroundings, including the Lake of Life 221.
Emperor’s Cold Heaven
Her domain art is also presented as Emperor’s Chilling Sky: Snow Dance Shining Sun 153 154.
- Mobilizes the freezing energy of the Far North through her deep connection to the region 154.
- During fusion, Qin Qi extends its snowfall across a radius of ten thousand li 154.
- Begins freezing Spirit City when used with the Far North energy stored in Snow Lotus 170.
- Its environmental advantage is strongest in the Far North: Snow Empress does not fear Di Tian there, but acknowledges she might not defeat him elsewhere 157.
Emperor’s Palm: Great Cold Without Snow
- One of her three ultimate arts; described as an attack that must be dodged rather than defended against 153.
- Briefly freezes Heavenly Tribulation lightning on contact 153.
- During incomplete fusion, her unstable body and blurred Soul Rings interrupt the technique before it can stop the strike 153.
Emperor’s Sword
- Condenses immense freezing energy into an ice sword 154 170.
- When wielded through Qin Qi, helps freeze and cleave apart the Heavenly Tribulation clouds 154.
- Combines effectively with Qin Qi’s superior sword technique: she supplies energy while he directs the swordsmanship 170.
Spiritual Perception
- Her spiritual power far exceeds Qin Qi’s at their first meeting, allowing her to immediately penetrate his spiritual disguise 147 148.
- His actual Transformation Path still confuses her identification of him as human or Soul Beast 148.
- After Qin Qi integrates Soul Power and spiritual power throughout his body, she can no longer sense them normally or enter his spiritual sea 202.
Martial Soul Fusion and Energy Stabilization
- Retains her consciousness after becoming Qin Qi’s Martial Soul and can merge into him to share her abilities 152 153 154.
- Helps stabilize and shape environmental energy into Qin Qi’s eighth Soul Ring 209.
- Her ultimate arts are not ordinary soul skills and therefore remain unrestricted in Slaughter City; she also attributes her limited suppression partly to being a Martial Soul 174.
- Before Qin Qi’s later growth, her high-output state against Qian Daoliu lasts only about five minutes because his body cannot withstand her energy indefinitely 170 172.
- After separation, her reconstructed human body retains her power but is physically more fragile. Qin Qi proposes teaching her the Strength Path to develop a divine body; that training is not yet shown 221.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Essence of Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow hairpin — A white bead produced by the Strength-Eating Immortal Gu and given to her by Qin Qi. She encases it in an ice flower and wears it in her hair. Qin Qi originally intends the essence to serve as the core of her future reconstructed body 180.
- Emperor’s Sword — An energy-formed weapon created from concentrated freezing power, rather than a permanent carried sword 154 170.
Relationships
- Qin Qi — Host, cultivation partner, and later husband by his own description. Their bond develops from a survival bargain into mutual protection and commitment; he restores her independence without treating the loss of her Martial Soul power as a reason to leave her 149 153 218 221.
- Ice Empress / Bing’er — Close companion and fellow Far North leader whose attachment to her includes romantic jealousy. Snow Empress protects her freedom, discourages impulsive fusion, and promises to help with her future tribulation 150 156 157.
- Titan Snow Demon King / A Tai — Fellow northern ruler entrusted with governing in her absence. She relies on him and Xiao Bai to balance Ice Empress’s influence 150 157.
- Ice Bear King / Xiao Bai — Raised by Snow Empress from childhood and regards her as a mother. Though reluctant to part from her, he obeys her order to stay in the Far North 154 157.
- Snow Lotus — Childlike Soul Beast awakened through the energies surrounding the fusion and tribulation. Snow Empress names her and treats her as a life for which she and Qin Qi share responsibility 154.
- Strength-Eating Immortal Gu — Qin Qi’s companion whose independent body and desires help convince her that Martial Soul transformation can preserve identity. It later produces her ice-marrow essence gift 149 180.
- Bo Saixi — Initially a source of suspicion and jealousy, particularly when she manipulates Qin Qi’s training. Her advice about regretted, unspoken affection later encourages Snow Empress to act on her attachment 205 208.
- Zi Zhenzhu — Immediately attracted to Snow Empress and declares her a future wife. Snow Empress does not reciprocate, and later pulls her away from Qin Qi with a possessive warning 193 218.
- Dugu Bo — Earns her approval when he jokingly defends her from Qin Qi’s claim that marrying her would be “making do” 181.
