Background / History
Xue Beng is the fourth prince of the Heaven Dou Empire and a student at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Though he presents himself publicly as a worthless, spoiled playboy, this is a deliberate act to protect himself amid imperial succession politics. His second and third brothers have already died, and he believes his eldest brother, Xue Qinghe, may kill him if he is perceived as a threat. 5 6
His status leaves him surrounded by people sent by Xue Qinghe to monitor and test him. As a result, Xue Beng lives in fear and distrusts most people around him. Qin Qi becomes one of the few people with whom he can speak candidly, and Xue Beng considers their friendship a rare source of comfort. 5 6
Xue Beng's continued public misconduct also serves his survival strategy. Qin Qi later frames him as the instigator of an academy incident involving noble students, reasoning that the resulting scandal will make everyone believe Xue Beng is genuinely an idle, spoiled wastrel rather than suspecting his facade. 60
Personality
Xue Beng is outwardly lazy, extravagant, frivolous, and fond of acting like a spoiled noble. He uses this reputation as cover, including behavior that makes others regard him as a genuine wastrel. 5 60 64
Behind the facade, he is politically aware and understands the precarious position of the Heaven Dou imperial family, the sects, and his own survival. He is anxious and cowardly when faced with danger, but can still act out of duty or loyalty—such as approaching Dugu Yan at Prince Xue Xing’s command, despite fearing her. 6 9
His friendship with Qin Qi is marked by frequent complaints, sarcasm, and being dragged into Qin Qi’s schemes. Despite repeatedly claiming that knowing Qin Qi has ruined his life, he continues to accompany and assist him. 9 11 55 64
Although he is not a capable fighter, Xue Beng is willing to act when his friends need help. During the conflict with Elephant Armored Academy, he leaves to summon assistance rather than remaining absent out of fear. 19 52 95

- Qin Qi — Close friend. Qin Qi is one of the few people Xue Beng trusts with his hidden thoughts; their friendship is also defined by Qin Qi repeatedly using him in troublesome plans. Academy Friend Group
Xue Beng regularly spends time with Qin Qi and Ye Lingling, calling their group the “unofficial business trio.” He prefers their company to the flatterers who normally surround him. 8 9
