Xue Beng is the fourth prince of the Heaven Dou Empire and a student at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Though he presents himself publicly as a worthless, spoiled playboy, this is a deliberate act to protect himself amid imperial succession politics. His second and third brothers have already died, and he believes his eldest brother, Xue Qinghe, may kill him if he is perceived as a threat. 5 6

His status leaves him surrounded by people sent by Xue Qinghe to monitor and test him. As a result, Xue Beng lives in fear and distrusts most people around him. Qin Qi becomes one of the few people with whom he can speak candidly, and Xue Beng considers their friendship a rare source of comfort. 5 6

When Qin Qi prepares to leave for Sea God Island, Xue Beng worries about the dangers and asks him to return alive. Qin Qi promises to come back and tells him to prepare for the eventual confrontation with Spirit Hall. They seal the promise with a fist bump. 191

Xue Beng then suggests that Qin Qi delay his departure long enough to leave an heir in case he dies. Qin Qi responds by throwing an object at his head and kicking him before leaving, preserving their irreverent friendship despite Xue Beng's new authority. 191

By Qin Qi's return, Heaven Dou's ten provinces are divided into five directly controlled regions, four semi-independent kingdoms, and a powerful duchy. Xue Beng favors gradually restoring cooperation by explaining their shared interests.
