Chiyu rose through the wars, secured Miyuki as the next Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, and became entangled in Madara and Obito’s plans. He married Kushina and left the story planning revenge against the Uchiha Clan before Clan Annihilation Night.

Arc 5The Blood-Eyed Asura

After Hatake Sakumo’s suicide, Chiyu guided Kakashi away from the Will of Fire and searched for Miyuki Uzumaki as a possible replacement for Kushina. He earned a fearsome reputation in battle, then accepted Danzo’s mission to suppress the Uchiha and was invited to join Root.

  • Hatake Sakumo killed himself after his former teammates and Shigui condemned him, and Chiyu and Kushina comforted the grieving Kakashi.
  • Chiyu told Kakashi that Konoha had betrayed Sakumo and that its leaders used the Will of Fire to manipulate ninjas, and Kakashi rejected the village’s claim on his loyalty.
  • Chiyu awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan, then took Kakashi to the Land of Grass and found the starving Miyuki Uzumaki in Kusagakure.

Arc 6The Land of Waves Campaign

Chiyu secured Miyuki Uzumaki as the likely replacement for Kushina as the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, then fought through missions that reshaped Akatsuki and devastated the Uchiha forces. After the Land of Waves campaign, he entered the clash between the Third Raikage and Iwagakure, ending with his blade at the Raikage’s neck.

  • Chiyu asked Danzo to replace Kushina with Miyuki as the Jinchuriki candidate, then accompanied him to Amegakure, where Yahiko died and Nagato escaped with Konan after summoning the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
  • Chiyu persuaded Hiruzen Sarutobi to consider Miyuki for the Nine-Tails, gained Mito Uzumaki’s agreement, and accepted Danzo’s Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal.
  • Chiyu secretly kept Yahiko alive in Ryūchi Cave, then recruited him to establish the Owl Organization under the masked name Shindai and promised to protect Nagato and Konan.

Arc 7Kannabi Bridge and Madara

Chiyu helped Miyuki become the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, then joined Minato’s team as Kakashi and Obito’s mission at Kannabi Bridge ended in Obito’s apparent death and Kakashi gaining his Sharingan. Chiyu secretly tracked Madara’s plans and, after Madara discovered his spying, offered to help conceal and support Obito in exchange for a future fight.

  • Chiyu survived his battle with the Third Raikage, returned to Konoha, and learned Mito had chosen Miyuki to inherit the Nine-Tails instead of Kushina.
  • Miyuki became the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki after Mito died, and Chiyu used genjutsu to help restrain the beast and planted a protective seal in Miyuki’s eye.
  • Chiyu and Minato joined Kakashi’s team for the Kannabi Bridge mission, where Kakashi and Obito argued over whether to prioritize the mission or rescue Rin and Katsuhiko.

Arc 8Wedding and Hidden Grudges

Chiyu helped Obito and Madara’s plans move forward while avenging Rin by attacking Kirigakure, then witnessed Minato become Hokage and married Kushina. After the wedding, Chiyu steered Danzo toward a new scheme against the Uchiha Clan and revealed to Yahiko, Pakura, and Raiga that Konoha had driven his family to their deaths.

  • Obito Uchiha witnessed Rin Nohara’s death, awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan, slaughtered the Hidden Mist ninja, and returned to Madara Uchiha determined to create a world where Rin lived.
  • Madara Uchiha explained his dream-world plan to Obito Uchiha, while Chiyu later met Madara at Mountain Graveyard, agreed to help him in exchange for a future battle, and cut off his head.
  • Chiyu told Kakashi that Rin Nohara had died, then took him to Kirigakure, where they fought the Hidden Mist and Chiyu killed the Third Mizukage after destroying much of the village.
  • Chiyu and Kakashi returned to Konoha as the war ended, and Minato Namikaze was chosen as Fourth Hokage despite Danzo’s preference for Orochimaru.
