Chiyu took Neji as his disciple, removed his Caged Bird Seal, and helped him confront the Hyuga Clan’s rigid divisions, but Hizashi died in Hiashi’s place to prevent war with Kumogakure. As Neji began planning a freer future for his clan, Naruto faced more bullying and learned to conceal his doubts about the Will of Fire while seeking strength.

• Hiruzen Sarutobi confronted Orochimaru in his underground hideout, but Orochimaru escaped through a trapped passage and Hiruzen ended the pursuit.
• Chiyu took Neji from the Hyuga compound despite Hiashi’s objections, and Hiruzen Sarutobi allowed Neji to remain his disciple for Konoha’s benefit.
• Chiyu explained the Caged Bird Seal to Neji, removed it, and began training him and Sōshi Uzumaki in their respective skills.
• After Chiyu warned Neji that Kumogakure might target the Hyuga Clan, a Cloud Ninja attempted to abduct Hinata and Hiashi killed him, bringing the villages to the brink of war.
• Hizashi agreed to die in Hiashi’s place, rejected Chiyu’s offer to help him escape, and asked Neji to live freely before killing himself with Gentle Fist.

Chiyu maneuvered around Hiruzen and Danzo as the conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha Clan drove Itachi toward a plan to stop the coup while preserving the clan. With Chiyu’s help and Obito’s agreement, Itachi prepared to target the coup plotters as Chiyu readied his family and allies to leave Konoha.

• Chiyu confronted Hiruzen over Naruto’s treatment, then agreed to stop contacting Naruto until he entered the Ninja Academy.
• Chiyu recruited Zabuza Momochi and Haku into the Owl Organization while Sōshi Uzumaki and Hyuga Neji continued growing stronger.
• Hiruzen and his advisers discussed the Uchiha Clan’s isolation, while Chiyu later helped Sōshi and Naruto enter the Ninja Academy as brothers.

Chiyu helped carry out the Uchiha massacre, revealed Konoha’s role to Naruto, and defected with his family and allies to build Hidden Sound Village and the Owl Organization. Four years later, Hidden Sound had prospered, while Naruto remained in Konoha and privately resolved to make the village pay for his suffering.

• Chiyu, Itachi Uchiha, and Obito Uchiha began the Uchiha massacre, with Chiyu and Obito killing clan members and taking their Sharingan while Itachi confronted Fugaku and Mikoto.

• Obito Uchiha freed Uchiha Hikari from her seal, recruited her into the Eye of the Moon Plan, and assigned Uchiha Yoshihiko to serve her.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi placed Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha on Kakashi Hatake’s team, and Naruto passed the graduation exam before Mizuki tricked him into stealing the Scroll of Seals.
• Naruto Uzumaki learned the truth about the Nine-Tails from Mizuki, defeated him with the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique, and accepted his forehead protector from Iruka.
