Investiture

The people around them were instantly stunned. Normally, an occasion like this was presided over personally by the Emperor. Just as they were about to break into discussion, the Emperor Yale's expression suddenly turned solemn. He said heavily, "I'm old now. I no longer have the energy to handle so many matters. Let me say a few more words today: from now on, unless it is a major matter, do not come looking for me. George will be responsible."

After he finished speaking, the great hall fell silent—silent as the grave. Everyone stared at the Emperor Yale in disbelief.

The Emperor Yale smiled faintly, then rose to his feet and slowly walked toward the back.

The great hall was truly silent as the grave, as though even a needle falling to the floor could be heard. Everyone turned to look at George.

George wore a smile as he ascended the steps one at a time. He did not turn around, yet it was as though he could sense everything behind him. His back remained perfectly straight. Once he reached the top, he slowly came to stand beside the seat where the Emperor Yale had just been sitting.

Everyone was shocked. The imperial capital was truly about to see the heavens change.

Within the hall, the Edward Family members looked ashen, frantically trying to think of ways to make up for the mistakes they had made recently.

They would probably have to bleed heavily. Otherwise, once this man gave the order, their family would suffer a devastating blow. That would be no small matter.

George glanced at the Emperor Yale walking beside him. The Emperor Yale smiled and signaled for him to speak, while he himself stood nearby and watched.

Greatly encouraged, George calmed the excitement in his heart and slowly
