Before he knew it, everything had fallen utterly silent.

Ruger glanced at Lady Kailyn, who was drinking tea beside him, and his fluttering little kobold heart felt a little more at ease.

Kailyn noticed his little gesture, and a smile tugged at her lips.

Ruger blinked. Although he had met them separately and gotten along quite well with both, he had never seen Lady Kailyn and the old wizard standing together. He imagined the old wizard probably did not even reach her shoulder.

Suddenly, the first sound rang out. Before Ruger could react, more followed, their directions and sources impossible to distinguish.

Holding his teacup, Ruger leaned against the floating chair, feeling somewhat dazed.

There was a humming murmur, like a group of people talking.

There were footsteps falling on some sort of floor.

There were sounds of spells striking targets.

There were reprimands and the quiet rustle of pages turning. Strangely, sounds that could not have existed together came pouring in, without distinction between loud and soft, near and far.

Heavy sounds could not drown out faint ones. Even the smallest sounds could cross vast distances.

Faint images gradually began flashing past Ruger's eyes.

He could not make them out.

He could not understand what he heard.

But a suspicion had already formed in his mind.

These came from that academy-the old wizard's Silverglow Academy.

Certain things caught up in this experiment, in this Spiral Dilemma, were being released, were blossoming.

It seemed everything really was over.

Success or failure?

And what would even count as success?

Ruger clutched his teacup and stole another glance at the lady beside him.

Lady Kailyn wore a faint smile, seemingly oblivious to what was happening before her.
