Every time Ruger saw their delighted faces, a different sort of emotion stirred within him.

To Aisijin and Big Silly Hum, this was a warm, peaceful home. To Ruger, it was a space that trembled from time to time, like a little boat tossed about in a storm. Likewise, every hunting trip was, to the two kobolds, a journey into the wondrous Endless Sea, an outing beneath the night sky, a search for delicious ingredients. But in Ruger's eyes, that sky was a riot of colors. If the spatial gate stayed open a little too long, his head would grow hot, and he might even shed tears and lose himself.

He was afraid. Not merely of the trembling space, nor merely awed by the tremendous undertaking of the senior wizards. He also felt a mountain-like pressure growing heavier by the day. He knew his weak mental power was gradually being affected by its prolonged exposure to this environment. At the same time, he feared that this peace would be shattered, that their cozy little boat would capsize.

He had thought about many things and studied that rift to the Abyss. Why could he open a spatial gate barely large enough for someone to pass through with his own power, while the rift to the Abyss in the Bedroom Space was too small to admit anyone? He had considered the magic array outside, and even the suppression exerted by the world itself.
