Background / History

Aisijin first appears as a taller dog-headed kobold girl who tells Ruger about the tribe’s new master, Gray Longneck Saint Lord. Her speech is halting and often reversed, but she is one of the few kobolds able to communicate with Ruger meaningfully 2.

Before Ruger gains power, Aisijin often shares her hard-won food with him, despite that going against ordinary kobold instincts. She learns that Ruger likes cooked food and brings him charred meat, partly to please him and partly because she wants to try something new herself 6 28.

Aisijin remains tied to the tribe’s dangerous master-changing cycle. She reports the replacement of Gray Longneck by Blackclaw Lord, later the return of Gray Longneck, and the discovery of Blackclaw’s disappearance amid a large amount of blood 5 14 28.

Her closest early bond besides Ruger is with Old Gold Tooth. When Old Gold Tooth is afflicted by glowing light strands, Aisijin urgently seeks help and guides Ruger and Big Silly Hum to him. Ruger notes that her anxiety is unlike her usual fierce response to threats 12 13.

Aisijin helps search for the black fruit connected to Big Silly Hum’s transformation and later leads Ruger toward its source. Ruger sees her effort as courageous and tied to her hope of saving Old Gold Tooth and becoming dragon-descended 20 42 43.

After Old Gold Tooth’s successful transformation, Aisijin tells Ruger about dark elf slave-catchers capturing kobolds and trapping Bald Tooth near the Holy Lord’s cave 50.

Ruger later transforms Aisijin and Big Silly Hum into dragonblood kobolds using dragonblood. After leaving the tribe, they spend much of their time in Ruger’s Abyss Bedroom space, where they adapt to the wider world, read novels, cultivate plants, cook, spar, and train 65 79 83 171 192.

Appearance

Aisijin begins as a sturdy female kobold, taller and stronger than Ruger in his early days. After her dragonblood transformation, she is repeatedly described as a tall, intimidating dragonblood/dragonborn kobold whose appearance can make outsiders nervous 5 10 83.

  • Sturdy build and broad shoulders 10
  • Sparse kobold fur, including several tufts Ruger considers attractive by kobold standards 10
  • Stronger than most female kobolds in the tribe 10
  • Later becomes a tall dragonblood/dragonborn kobold with a more imposing presence 65 83
  • Likes her boots but often removes them in the Abyss Bedroom space to avoid damaging them 396

Personality

Aisijin is unusual among kobolds because she can form sincere bonds, share food, and show curiosity beyond immediate survival. Ruger considers her a true friend, not merely someone repaying a debt, because ordinary kobolds do not reliably understand gratitude 6.

She is simple-minded but not stupid. Ruger repeatedly distinguishes her from ordinary kobolds, and Old Gold Tooth’s stories imply that Aisijin is a rare intelligent kobold born among a cursed race 2 14.

She is loyal, trusting, and emotionally direct. She worries about Ruger going exploring, brings him food when he is injured or hungry, and later obeys his instructions even when terrified because she believes in him 5 28 65.

Aisijin also has a fierce side. Ruger remembers her beating back kobolds who stole her prey, and she is eager to test her strength against Big Silly Hum after each improvement 12 300.
