Background / History

Big Silly Hum begins as a huge, dull kobold in the tribe. After eating a sour fruit from the Sacred Lord, his body gains rapid healing, making his blood valuable enough that Aisijin tries to cut him for Old Gold Tooth’s sake 10 13.

During the aftermath of Blackclaw Lord’s disappearance, Ruger finds Aisijin and Big Silly Hum near a massive pool of blood. Big Silly Hum is terrified, blood-covered, and too weak to stand properly, giving Ruger little hope of learning what happened from him 12.

Aisijin later uses Big Silly Hum’s blood to help Old Gold Tooth. His wounds close so quickly that Ruger has to take over the bleeding himself, and Big Silly Hum is left weakened and silent against the cave wall 13.

Ruger eventually transforms Big Silly Hum and Aisijin with dragonblood, making them dragonkin kobolds. After growing inside the Abyss Bedroom, Big Silly Hum becomes a towering draconic kobold with black scales and a body larger than ordinary dragonblood kobolds should allow 65 78.

In Grotto City and later travels, Big Silly Hum serves as one of Ruger’s visible companions and combat followers. He protects Lorigo during an ambush, fights alongside Aisijin in an arena, and becomes valuable enough that a female wizard apprentice wants to purchase the pair as modified kobolds 85 95 96.

Under Ruger’s guidance, Big Silly Hum enters the Fighter path as a Life Fighter. He later receives a Rage Fighter Potion, turning his repressed endurance and vitality into a powerful rage-based combat state 176 288 289 290.

Appearance

Big Silly Hum is consistently described as huge, broad-shouldered, and physically imposing. After his dragonblood transformation, he becomes taller than Baangte even while hunched, with black dragon scales and a wall-like body 10 78.

  • Very large kobold body, already difficult for Aisijin to handle before transformation 10.
  • Broad shoulders and heavy build 10 78.
  • Fur becomes smoother, glossier, and sparser after transformation 78.
  • Black dragon scales cover parts of his body 78.
  • After rage activation, his body swells further and his eyes become bloodshot 290.
  • His Fighter Mark forms in the palm he cut while training as a Life Fighter 176.

Personality

Big Silly Hum is quiet, frightened, and obedient for much of the story. Early on, he trembles under Ruger’s gaze and is more afraid of Ruger than of the dragonblood transformation itself 13 65.

His dullness gradually gives way to loyalty, consideration, and persistence. When Ruger lets Aisijin and Big Silly Hum choose Fighter paths, Big Silly Hum wants Aisijin to choose first and hesitates because he worries about choosing what will best help Ruger 175 176.

He is unusually enduring. Even under Aisijin’s attacks, Miserly Spell, and Kafei’s Impatience Spell, he suppresses his rage far longer than Ruger expects, confirming that the Rage Fighter Potion suits his repressed temperament 290.

Despite his size, he remains gentle toward companions. He worries when Ruger returns injured, nods obediently when told to call him “Big Brother Ruger,” and later develops quiet initiative through cooking, cultivation, hunting, and managing the Bedroom Space 78 118 424 554.

Abilities & Skills

Rapid Regeneration

Big Silly Hum first displays abnormal healing after eating the Sacred Lord’s sour fruit. His wounds close quickly enough that Aisijin struggles to draw blood from him 10 13.

  • Quickly heals knife wounds 10.
  • Finger cuts close before much blood can flow 13.
  • His blood is used in an attempt to help Old Gold Tooth recover 13.
  • After becoming a Life Fighter, his recovery becomes even more pronounced during rage 176 290.

Dragonblood Kobold Physique

Ruger transforms Big Silly Hum with dragonblood, greatly improving his body and pushing him beyond normal dragonblood kobold size 65 78.

  • Gains black dragon scales 78.
  • Becomes enormously tall and broad, “practically a mountain” before Ruger 78.
  • Possesses extreme vitality as a dragonblood kobold and later Life Fighter 176.
  • Durable enough to withstand harsh Fighter training and repeated wounds 192 288 290.

Life Fighter Mark

Big Silly Hum becomes a Life Fighter after drinking Ruger’s potion and focusing on his desire for warmth and vitality 176.

  • Condenses his Fighter Mark in his palm 176.
  • Uses wounds and healing to stimulate the mark 176 288.
  • Trains by sparring and imitating Ruger’s meditation-like focus 192 288.
  • Can manifest the mark through will outside combat and keep it glowing beyond the advancement threshold 288.

Rage Fighter Enhancement

Ruger gives Big Silly Hum a Rage Fighter Potion because rage is especially compatible with his Life Fighter foundation 288 290.

  • Potion causes alternating fury, fear, savagery, calmness, and physical strengthening 289.
  • Leaves him feeling quiet, calm, and stronger afterward 289.
  • Under provocation, his body swells and his agility sharply increases 290.
  • Rage accelerates his Life Fighter healing, causing wounds to close faster than usual 290.
  • Ruger judges that under certain conditions, Big Silly Hum may be no weaker than an ordinary wizard apprentice 290.

Combat and Protection

Big Silly Hum serves as one of Ruger’s combat followers and often fights beside Aisijin 85 95.

  • Intercepts a hidden attacker targeting Lorigo 85.

Hunting and Labor

Inside and outside the Bedroom Space, Big Silly Hum contributes through practical work rather than speech.

  • Helps hunt prey on the island after Ruger allows the two dragonborn kobolds outside 424.
  • Brings back prey large enough for the group to cook fresh tentacles 424.
  • Helps cultivate extraordinary plants, including Dragonblood Bitter Vine and Fullness Potion ingredients 175 192 198.
