Crack!
The crisp sound was different from the previous ones. As far as Ruger could see, some of the dull-witted demons nearby reacted strangely, many freezing for an instant, as though the sound had stabbed into their hearts. Even these simple-minded demons, their instincts inflamed by the bloody stench of the Flesh-and-Blood Battlefield, felt the tearing of the Sinking Expanse, the seven hundred and fifty-first layer of the Abyss.
Ruger wanted to experience firsthand whether these demons, born and bred in the Sinking Expanse, had some special sense of the spatial rupture and invasion of their layer.
Just as in that Fairy Kingdom before, where many of the fairies who grew up there could sense that the land that had nurtured them was dying.
The rising red-skinned demon was also drawn by that crisp sound and could not help lifting his head to look into the distance.
It only seemed distant because the Flesh-and-Blood Battlefield was so vast. The fissure was just outside it, not far from the cave where they had hidden earlier.
Several lords roared in succession.
The entire Flesh-and-Blood Battlefield changed. The demons that had frozen at the sharp crack had only just resumed slaughtering one another when another change swept over them.
They gathered, gradually abandoning their fighting, and began making their way toward the lords in a chaotic throng.
Ruger watched the red-skinned demon in midair, and the red-skinned demon watched him.
Countless demons ran, leaped, or beat their wings as they passed between the two. They were like two reefs amid a tide of demons.
The red-skinned demon frowned deeply as he looked into the distance, then glanced at Ruger. He began sweeping away the demons surging toward him, protecting the seated figure from being trampled.
Sparks constantly shot from the enormous sphere of
