Three days?
Ruger mulled it over. He was deeply curious about what he would face in three days and what these Wizards of the Holy Tribunal truly wanted them to do. Was it the Holy Tribunal's own business, or some personal matter a Wizard had entrusted to it? Of course, there was one more possibility, the highest-level one he could imagine: the Supreme Council of Wizards. Perhaps this was the Supreme Council's business, and it was merely having the Holy Tribunal handle it.
Three possibilities, three kinds of rewards, and probably somewhat different dangers.
Ruger hummed as he approached the last corner. Beyond it, the passage led straight to his quarters.
He had already decided to enter the Bedroom Space and ask his teacher as soon as he returned. Naturally, he would ask about that smile-whether the Four-Ring Wizard of the Vango Family who had died after the Demon Wizard's visit had also worn a smile.
As he thought about it, Ruger even stretched the corners of his mouth, as though rehearsing. He felt that even if he had to die, he should practice the perfect smile beforehand. After all, his face was unlike an ordinary person's, and his tongue always tended to loll out when he slept on his back.
At the final corner, his raised foot hesitated slightly, but he stepped forward all the same.
He hesitated not out of fear, but because he was subconsciously wondering whether another figure would be waiting beyond the corner. If so, that would make three.
Still humming the same tune, Ruger was just about to let out a quiet sigh of relief when he spotted a figure far away, blurred by the distance in the dim corridor.
