The waves rolled on calmly, never throwing up much spray and never stopping. They looked grand and imposing, yet also like someone stretching out of idle boredom.
Ruger hovered in the air, listening to the waves as he watched a figure approach from afar.
It was a trembling figure sprawled over a familiar. Both rider and familiar were unsteady, and they seemed to struggle just to stay airborne.
Ruger raised an eyebrow. Unable to make out the face of the person sprawled over the flying familiar, he turned to glance at his own island. Their flight path was not headed toward it; they were merely passing by.
If anything, his own figure, having just taken flight, was rather close to their route.
His gaze shifted, and he spotted two tiny black dots farther away, racing toward him at tremendous speed.
Ruger blinked and carefully backed away to the edge of his island, clearing their path completely.
A powerful surge of mental power suddenly came from the distance.
"Sir! Please help us stop that person!"
The surge of mental power accompanied a loud shout from the two speeding black dots pursuing from behind. It was hard to ignore.
Ruger curled his lip, showing no intention of moving.
Without knowing the full story, he would neither help hold back the person in front nor obstruct the people behind. All that mattered was that they did not make a mess of his island.
His slow retreat had already made his position clear, so the two pursuers' shouting was plainly discourteous, a rude gesture that left an unpleasant impression.
Yet Ruger remained calm and wore a smile.
He would not readily interfere in other people's affairs, but watching a show was always fun. All the more so when it happened right on his doorstep.
